First Big Scare with DS
Had a very scary time this mornign with DS. I brought him upstairs with me while I got my purse, etc. to go out. He was crawling around on the rug in our room, and I turned my back on him very briefly to get things together. Couple seconds later, I hear gagging and turn around to see he has reached into a garbage can and put a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol in his mouth!
I pulled it out, reached in his mouth to see if there was any cotton still in his mouth, and called poison control. The woman I spoke to asked some questions about his behavior, how saturated was the cotton, etc. and at the end, said she didn't think he had enough to hurt himself, but to watch him over the next few hours and see if he seemed drunk. lethargic, dizzy, or started vomiting. It is now a few hours later, and he seems fine.
OMG, my heart is still beating way too fast. I don't know what I would do if he was seriously hurt. We really have to be careful of what we throw out from now on, maybe put the garbage cans in the locked cabinets. I never thought about them really, and he hasn't shown interest in them so far.
I am so glad I had the poison control number handy. If anyone needs it, it is 800-222-1222. The woman I spoke with was very nice, very helpful.

Thankfully DS is ok. DD is crawling now & I'm always afraid of what she's going to discover.
I bought a garbage can from BB&B that locks just to be on the safe side.

Thanks for the good wishes! This was by far the scariest moment I have had as a parent (sure it won't be the last)!
I'll look for those locking garbage cans this weekend. Till then, the can is locked under the sink.
I hope none of you ever need the posion control number, but I'm happy to pass it along.

I'm so sorry that happened. Thank you for reminding us to be careful. It's unbelieveable what our little ones get into and how easy it is for them to get hurt. Hopefully your DS will be okay.
