First day/ week activities
What sort of ice breaker/ introduction activities do you do those first few days.
Usually on the 1st day I have my students fill out on index card with contact info on the front and then "fun" questions on the back- birth order, favs, places visited etc. I just want something new to try that might encourage great participation.
BTW, this is for 7th and 8th graders. TIA

Re: First day/ week activities
When I was in the HS, I had an acitivity that broke them into groups and gave them a list of people that survived a nuclear war, but they only had room in the shelter for a certain amount. The students would have to decide as a group who stayed and who left the shelter, based on gender, skills, intellect, age, etc

I do this lesson as an introduction to prejudice and the Holocaust literature we will be reading. Never heard of using it as an ice breaker though. i have done "Two truths and a lie", interviews of one another, toilet paper squares, etc. Try searching on google for ice breakers. You'll find a lot of stuff.

I was a SS teacher, so it was a great intro to how people make decisions, whether those decisions are right, historical consequences, etc. I guess it really would only work for SS as an ice breaker.
