First Doctors Visit
I just went to my Doc for the first time today, i am 6 weeks. I was a little dissappointed with it. I knew i would not be getting a sonogram, she took a pap and some blood to test. But she didnt go over foods to eat, she did not weigh me.
she did not even give me a due date until i asked when i was leaving
I guess i would have expected so much more the first visit. What did your doctor do during the first visit?

Re: First Doctors Visit
i believe most first visits that early - they just test your blood.
its really too early to do a sono at 6 weeks - i was bleeding early in my pregnancy and came in and did a sono and it was too early to see a heart beat or anything so it was very nerve wracking.
dont worry when you go back in a bout 2 weeks and see the heartbeat it will be amazing!

Re: First Doctors Visit
that does sound a little dissapointing. They didnt do much more with me until the first sono and after they saw a steady increase in beta's. Hopefully the next appt will be exciting.

Re: First Doctors Visit
Sorry that you were disappointed...
My situation was different. I had just seen my doctor a week before I went back to him to confirm my pregnancy..so I was about 2 weeks pregnant..which he found hilarious.. However..he did give me a PG test and did blood work. I can't remember if he did a pap because I had had it done already..but he did give me my due date. He also made it a point to tell me I was the first person ever that he'd seen so early in a pregnancy..and wouldn't be able to show me anything because there'd be nothing to see... He was so cute about it.
Again..I'm sorry you were disappointed..but don't be. You have so much more to look forward to, and maybe the doctor was just having an "off" day. (No excuse..but that's all I could think of).

Re: First Doctors Visit
They took alot of blood, talked to me about foods I could eat/avoid, took BP, urine test, did a PAP and a transvaginal sono to see if everything was where it should be. I think that was it. I'm sorry you were disappointed, they will get better!

Re: First Doctors Visit
My Dr. is a friend of the family so I may have gotten a little special treatment, but, he did:
Sono Took blood Urine Made sure my PAP was up-to-date Discussed foods I should avoid Put me on baby asprin right away (he knows I have a family history of strokes so he discussed that a lot)
thats about it!

Re: First Doctors Visit
I saw my doctor way before 6 weeks. In fact I was going in for a routine visit and took the pregnancy test the same day. He weighed me (does at every vist pregnant or not) Did a urine test (every visit) and although he knew it was too early to see a heartbeat, he showed me that the fertilized egg had cleared my tubes. (peace of mind)
We touched on diet, exercise and how often he needed to see us.

Re: First Doctors Visit
I saw my doctor at around 4 weeks and he did the same thing...confirmed the pregnancy, exam, pap smear, weighed me, gave me my prenatal vitamins and additional prescription for refills and thats about it...he scheduled me for a sonogram at 9 weeks and the next time I saw him was I believe at 10 weeks...he gave me my due date then. Once you go for your ultrasound and you see how much your baby has grown, then it'll all start coming together...

Re: First Doctors Visit
My first visit was basically an annual, the nurse did give me an EDD, the dr gave me a prenatal vitamin prescription and sent me on my way for bloodwork. The nurse did tell me they would request some extra tests from my pap based on me being pregnant. Now that my bloodwork is back I have a sono and my first OB appt scheduled. (I am just over 8 weeks now) I think because you are so early (I was as well) they just treat it as your average appt until all the bloodwork is back confirming everything.

Re: First Doctors Visit
Mine made me wait till 8 weeks before i can come. At 8 weeks she: internal sonogram VERY briefly on foods to not eat - she just said cheese.. what about sushi and all that? gave my due date 20 viles of blood.

Re: First Doctors Visit
I have a special situation because I went to a reproductive endocronologist to get pregnant in the first place. All he did was a quick sono (I was 6.5 weeks) and I saw the heartbeat but that was it. He did NOTHING else. He didn't give me a due date, he took blood to test my progesterone, not BETA (I am on progesterone suppositories) and said, now you follow up with an OB. He didn't give me a due date, didn't tell me bpm on the heartbeat and didn't tell me any foods or anything else for that matter to avoid. I was QUITE disappointed myself. I don't even go to see a doctor until the week after next (5/24) and by then I will be almost 10 weeks!!

Re: First Doctors Visit
Thanks for you replies. I don't know how i feel about my doc now. I used to really like her. I do not go back to see her for another 4 weeks, but i go in 2 weeks for a sonogram - but not with her
