First ever IVF consult
I had my IVF consult today. It went pretty well. I am beginning the process now...EEEKK! I'm having my hysterosonogram on Monday where they put the saline in your uterus to check the cavity. DH and I both had blood drawn today and signed a million forms. I couldn't believe all those questions about what to do with the embryos if either of us dies or get divorced. I mean it makes sense, I just never thought about it. There's a couple more things to do. I should be starting Lupron in about 2 weeks and will start the meds with my next AF.
I'm excited and super nervous. I asked about RPL testing and she said no. There was a reason for my miscarriage (triploidy). She said it's very unlikely to happen twice and a genetic fluke. Overall my appt. went well. I was a little disappointed when I asked about success rates and she said for my age (31), 46% get pregnant. So I basically have a 50-50 shot. I just feel like we have been trying for soo long and to have a 50-50 shot after all this...I guess I just thought it would be better.
I'm going to really try and be positive. After all, what else can I do? DH has been wonderful. He has just let me cry, listened to me, held me, whatever I needed. I almost broke down while we were waiting for the RE. He saw my face and asked do I need tissues? I told him I just couldn't believe we were here and that this was really happening. He said he knows we will have a baby and if this is what it takes, then so be it. I said how do you know? He said I just know.
Thanks for listening ladies. I'm sure I'll have a million questions as we move ahead. Hope I'll be able to post a BFP soon!

Re: First ever IVF consult
The IVF journey is not easy, but once you are in it, it just seems like a way of life. If this brings you a happy and healthy baby, it's well worth it. I know making the decision to start IVF is not easy, but you're over that hurdle and now you just have to get pregnant!
IVF is not a sure fix, but your odds are quite good.
Try to stay positive!!
Good luck!

Re: First ever IVF consult
I really hope this is it for you!!!
Question though (I'm sorry if this is a dumb question) - when you say 46%, that means that each try there is a 46% chance of success or only 46% of women in your (our) age group end up ever getting pregnant through IVF?

The way I understood it the first way you wrote it. I have a 46% chance of getting pregnant this IVF cycle (she said based on my age-I'm 31). I hope what I'm saying makes sense
I am also unexplained IF if that matters.

Re: First ever IVF consult
a 50-50 shot is as good as it gets!! be grateful that there's a procedure that actually gets you to a 50-50 chance!! "regular" women in any given cycle have a 15-25% shot. compared to that, 50-50 is amazing!!
good luck!!

Re: First ever IVF consult
First off DO NOT stress about the stats your Dr gave you. I was given a 30% chance at age 40 that I would even get pregnant with IVF.....well did I show them.........
I want to wish you luck on your new journey. I will tell you to just take one day at at time, try to relax and not stress.
