first grade teachers
Was wondering if you can help-My daughter just got her first quarter report card and she was listed as reading at Level G. Can someone explain to me what that means. it didn't give any info. on it and her teacher hasn't gotten back to me. Thanks for any help!

Level G is a guided reading level. It is based on words per page and the difficulty of the text. First graders are expected to be able to EXIT first grade at a level between G,H,I.
Your daughter seems to be a great reader! Here is a chart from Scholastic which correlates your daughter's level to other reading levels.

is this NYC??
I work in NYC and we use fountas and pinnell leveling. G level is great for 1st grade at this point in the year.
By the end of the year they say that K Level is ideal.
the letters go up in order so after g, she will be H, then I , J K
she is doing great!!!

NP they may still use fountas and pinnel leveling i know what school on LI that i worked in did. I would ask the teacher.

The reading levels go like ths K: A-D 1: D-I 2: I-L
G is great for this time of the year, she will be at second grade reading level in no time.

I agree! One of my higher reading groups is reading G/H.
