First injection tonight!! update with question

OMG ladies! It took me 20 minutes of flipping out and having my husband pinch my fat before I could put the gonal F in me. Holy crap!! I can't even watch other people get injections. That was so freaky for me. It didn't hurt, but I was just so grossed out. I did it. The weirdest thing ever... right after I started feeling a dull pain in my ovary. I am still kind of freaking out because I am scared of side effects. Wow- this is tough!!! Happy National Infertility Week to me Chat Icon

Update question: Because of my squeamishness I have been pulling the pen out too soon. Then, I see it still drip out, so I have been poking it back in. Tonight I poked myself 3 times. Is there a chance that not enough went in? It still clicked three times inside me, then I put it back in for a fourth click. I didn't remember that the nurse said to hold it in for 5 seconds. Do you think I will get the full effect?

The gonal was nothing. I never even felt it. If it's any consolation, I didn't have any side effects from it. Good luck!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Thanks ladies! Chat Icon Yea, it did not hurt, but just grossed me out. I actually woke up in the middle of the night with an extreme migraine and was throwing up. I feel better now, but am still slightly nauseus.

Besides all this, though, I am basically not so stressed.

Re: First injection tonight!!

The Gonal F will become super easy to do after a few days. The only one I hate is LoveNox. 75% no bruise - 25% bruise....ugh. My stomach is starting to look ridiculous.

ok stop stabbing yourself!!!Chat Icon

seriously...though....my best advice is when you pull it out.... after waiting one secondChat Icon take your clean palm and put it over where you injected and gently hold it there or rub lightly...imo keeps you from getting hard knots under the skin and help disperses the medicine inside instead of dripping out.

Stop pulling it out, you will just have to stick yourself again lol. I promise it gets easier. I used to freak out because I hate needles and now Im doing lovenox shots during commercial breake on Idol. I get the drop sometimes too. Its just a small amount though so Im sure its fine. Just try to keep it there for a few seconds. Count puppies and rainbows for 5 seconds to get your mind off the fact that there is a needle in your belly.Chat Icon

I agree...stop pulling it out! Just push it in all the way and hold it for at least 5 seconds. You'll get it all in. But if you pull it out too soon you're throwing away precous meds!

Re: First injection tonight!! update with question

Is it the Gonal F Pen? I had to mix that with Menopur and I found the Gonal F would never be done dripping. The nurse told me to press it down all the way and to count to 5 and that was sufficient. If you keep poking yourself, I would think you would wind up getting too much. Plus each time the needle gets duller and more painful to push in.

Ok, so I did better last night. I only poked myself twice. Lol. I followed your advice. I rubbed the spot(s) with a gauze. It stopped a scab from forming, which is great.

Tonight my dose was lowered. Only 1 poke. You know what else helped? Having my dh hold the fat form me. Chat Icon
