I will be starting my first IVF cycle in August.
Can anyone discuss the process and what I'm in store for

Re: First IVF cycle
It depends on the protocol. My doctor had me take BCP for about 21 days. Then I got my period. On day 2 of my period, I went in for blood and ultrasound to see if I was ready for the injections. The injections consisted of menopur and follistim every night- both are FSH injections. Once my estrogen levels reached a certain point, they had me take a daily injection of ganirelix every morning to prevent me from ovulating. I started the injections on Monday, September 14. Every morning, I went to my RE's office for bloodwork and/or ultrasound monitoring- they count how many follicles you are producing and how big each one is. On Wednesday, September 23- they told me that I was ready for the trigger shot. I had to take the trigger shot at 11:30 PM that night. On Friday, September 25 at 10:30 AM was my egg retrieval (egg retrievals are scheduled for about 35 hours after the trigger shot). Five days later was my embryo transfer.
So basically, I did 9 days of injections, then 1 day of the trigger. Two days later was my ER. Five days after that was the transfer.
The worst part was waking up early every day to go for monitoring.

Re: First IVF cycle
the above poster said it in a nutshell basically.
I did 14 days of BCP; started menopur in the am; follistim at night. added in ganirelex towards the end. I think I stimmed for 11 days b/c early on my estrogen dropped, rather than rising and my follicle count dropped. So they maxed me out on the follistim dose. Triggered and 36 hrs later had retreival. I did a 3 day transfer b/c I only had 2 embryos make it. Transferred one and had a miscarriage.
My 2nd cycle was different in that they had me do microdose lupron so I did lupron/menopur in the am; lupron /follistim at night. NO Ganirelex this time. Triggered and retrieval. None of my embryos made it so I had nothing to transfer.
I went every other day for bloodwork / ultrasound before work.
Its an intense 10-12 day period. But it almost becomes normal after a few days.

First IVF cycle
Your protocol will be determined by how you respond to meds. I never took bcps before I started a cycle. CD 2, I went in and started stimming. I was on pretty low doses of the meds last time since I respond quickly. About 8-10 after I started stimming, I had the egg retrieval and then 5 days later, we did the embryo transfer.
Good luck!
