first mother's day - UPDATED with question

so i am not a greedy person by any means but i would really like a little something for my first mother's day. yes, i am ballsy, i know, but i would like more than just a card which usually i am FINE with since DH and i are trying to save $$.

i dropped a hint to my DH yesterday that i knew what i was getting him for his first father's day...

but he hasn't asked me what i want and he ALWAYS asks me.

WWYD?

UPDATE: so i took the plunge and asked him if he wanted me to tell him and he said yes - so i did Chat Icon

now does anyone know where i can get a personalized mommy necklace in a store? i could order it online but DH prefers stores.

TIA!!!

Re: first mother's day

I hope DH gets me someting. Nothing pricey but something with thought (not candy which he bought earlier in the week and said it was for Mothers Day, ie it was m&m's, cute but its not V-Day)

I even this morning said to my DS who was next to DH "what are you getting mommy for Mother's Day?"

Fingers crossed!!

Re: first mother's day

I could have written this myself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My god, I am so with you on this. I kinda wanted this day to be special for me. Instead, I'm going to visit my mother who wasn't been in the best of moods lately & then going home to maybe see my MIL.. (Which would be a miracle if shes actually home that day Chat Icon) No big plans for me.

I'd actually be quite suprised if I even get a greeting card from anyone.

Re: first mother's day

Maybe ask Luca in front of Daddy if he needs his allowance so he can buy his mommy her first Mother's Day gift.

If that doesn't make a point, be direct, and just flat out tell DH that since it is your 1st mothers day that you would hope Luca would get you something.

Sometimes you need to be direct.

Re: first mother's day

LB - I'm the same way... I really don't care about hallmark holidays, IMO EVERYDAY is Mothers Day Chat Icon But I really want DH to make this one special for me, we waited SO long and went through so much that this is a day I've been wanting to be a real part of so badly!

I haven't said a word about it, other than I want it to just be the 3 of us on Sunday. I'm leaving it in DH's hands which I don't know if it was a really good idea to do! Chat Icon Because yesterday afternoon he said "Samantha still doesn't know what to get for you for Mothers Day"

Re: first mother's day

I had my first Mother's Day last year and it was kind of what I expected I guess - split the day between my mom and his mom and then finally at 8:00 pm we go home and Chris was going to make this great dinner for me - but with a 2 month old at that time, it was a wash.

He did get me a card and promised to take me to a B&B for a weekend (meaning he forgot/didn't get a chance to actually BUY me anything so he wrote this in the card instead) - THAT WE FINALLY GOT AROUND TO DOING 2 WEEKEND AGO! Chat Icon Oh well.
Just having Athan there was all I really needed in the end anyway and now we laugh about it.

Gift, no gift - your first Mother's Day will be one you will remember. And just think - payback (good or bad) - in a month on his first Father's Day!!! Chat Icon

Re: first mother's day

thanks everyone Chat Icon normally i HATE the idea of expecting/wanting a gift because really, i don't need anything. this year it's all about me WANTING something.

janine i like the idea of asking luca if he needs his allowance Chat Icon

i am SO lucky this year b/c my DH's grandmother is coming up from FL to visit so we are seeing his family tomorrow and i get to spend my first mother's day with my family which totally rocks. plus DH is off from work both days which is a rarity!!

i know he will at least get me a card, because he got me a card from him and one from luca for my birthday.

but i do really hope there is something else too Chat Icon

Re: first mother's day

I told DH awhile ago I wanted a mommy necklace. I am usually not into holidays and gifts at all, but for some reason I feel like my first mother's day is something special.

He told me yesterday he looked online for hours and couldn't find anything we could afford. I thought he would look at silver, he was looking at gold and platinum. My DH has expenisve taste, lol. Anyway, I guess this means I'm not getting anything. I REALLY don't want flowers, and I think he knows that.
A card would be nice.

Tomorrow is DH's birthday and I got HIM a gift, lol.

Re: first mother's day

I say s c r e w it and just tell him what you want for Mother's Day. That's what I did.

We were watching tv in bed a couple of weeks ago. And I said "Oh, by the way, I want a sewing machine for Mother's Day."

DH said "Thank you for telling me, it's much easier then trying to think of something on my own."

Re: first mother's day

Well, if you said he is the type of person who ALWAYS asks and didn't this time, maybe he got you something already!!!

DH is the exact same way and last year he totally surpised me with the most beautiful bracelet!!

Do you think maybe he has something planned already?

Re: first mother's day

I was thinking I would be disappointed, but DH brought home a big bag from Harrods (he was in London this week).

I think your DH probably knows to get you something-- but, I would def try to drop some hints like you hope your first mother's day is special, etc., and you want to really remember it.

Re: first mother's day

DH always gets me nice, thoughtful gifts,so I am kind of expecting something nice on Sunday...BUT, yesterday when I walked through the door, my son was waiting for me with something behind his back.

It was a gorgeous hand made MOther's Day card. It had a cut out vase on the front and he made 3 flowers out of construction paper and pipe cleaners (i think). Inside was this beautiful poem about tiny handprints and then it had his handprints in blue. I CRIED! DS is 2 1/2 and it was the first card he actually helped make JUST FOR ME! THAT was all I needed and nothing will ever top that gift!

ETA:if there is something you want, I see no problem with you hinting it to DH!

Re: first mother's day

DH struggles with gifts. He would get me anything I wanted, but hesitates because he doesn't want to get me the wrong thing. I asked him if he wanted me to tell him what I'd like and he said yes. So for Mother's Day, I told him... AND I'M GETTING IT!!!

Re: first mother's day

Please tell him what you want.

Last year was my first and did not tell him what I wanted.

I got what I didn't want, and it's still under my bed (basket of items from the body shop).

What I really wanted, I got a few weeks later on my birthday, so I think it's more than ok, to just tell him what you want.

Re: first mother's day - UPDATED with question

you should have something for your first mother's day if you want it. i didn't want anything expensive but also wanted a personalized necklace. I couldn't decide which one I wanted and put up a huge post on here about it....I love what I got and it was about $35. It came in about 8 or 9 days. It was from Etsy but I don't know of any local places that make them...sorry! Enjoy yours when you get it...I can't wait to wear mine!

i want one of these too, so i found a place called jewelry with love on laurel ave in northport. they have some really cute stuff on their site. they do online orders, but since its local, maybe u can call and see if u could go in person to get one if u cant wait to order one. under events on the site it looks like they have some jewelry classes and parties held there, the # is 516-650-2216. here is the link-hope i do it right! let me know if u like anything!
