First post : Moving from breastfeeding to formula
Hi all... I haven't posted a birth story or anything since the birth of my little girl but will soon!!! I read the parenting board a lot just haven't posted in weeks...
I am currently nursing/pumping and am hoping to switch to formula soon DESPITE my guilt which is making the transition hard for me.
I really struggled in the beginning, had a lot of issues with latching etc and am proud that I have made it to 3 months even though my original goal was 6 months.
I want to start to wean and I want to do it the best way for her so that her system doesn't go into shock and my boobs don't explode.
Any advice? Any formula suggestions?
Thanks!

Re: First post re: breastfeeding to formula
If she's used to the bottle I would start with one bottle of formula a day and see how it goes.
I use Similac Advanced and DD had no problems. But she was also 7 months. But that is how I did it.
I switched then to 3 formula bottles per day...BF in early am, dinner, and before bed. Then DD weaned herself.

Re: First post re: breastfeeding to formula
Thanks for your reply... I was wondering if it is possible to just nurse at night or in the morning. If it is I would love to keep that up but just use formula to supplement the rest of her feedings.
I am going crazy staying in the house or packing up the pump every time I leave...

That is definitely possible. I almost did that but DD's allergies were too much for me to handle (I would have had to put myself on an elimination diet which was more than I could handle at the time).
I weaned DD over a month and had no engorgement or any difficulties after she was fully weaned. If you replace one feeding a week (or every 4-5 days if you want to do it a little quicker), your supply will decrease on it's own and eventually stop without having to resort to cabbage leaves and tight bras.
