First Pregnancy and having TWINS!

Hi everyone :)
My name is Ariana, and I am new to this site.
I am 10 weeks pregnant with twins (tomorrow), and this is my first pregnancy. The past 2 weeks I have been battling with morning sickness (which seems to be all day sickness for me lol) and yesterday I had my worst preggo day ever (I was stuck at work and so unbelievably sick, bitter, and emotional). Did anyone else seem to get such bad morning sickness at 10 weeks?
I also had a few questions for those of you who are pregnant with/have had twins if you dont mind.

How far along were you when you started to show? (i seem to already be showing!)

Did the pregnancy symptoms last the whole time, or did they get better?

Were you able to have a Vag. birth, or did you have to have a c-section? I was told that most multiple pregnancies end up requiring a c-section and I am petrified of getting one!

Were you put on bed rest, and if so at how many weeks.

Also, I have been to the doctor twice, and last week I was able to hear the heartbeats for the first time and see the little dots on the screen. It was really quite a amazing experience. I was curious as to when they finally give you a sonogram picture to take home with you (I am dying to show my parents and inlaws!!!) And also, how far along before you were able to find out the sexes.

Is there anything in particular I shoudl be eating or staying away from (except fish, i dont eat that anyways).

Has anyone opted to do any of the tests (ultrascreen or any of the genetic testings) and do you think its a good idea to do them? I have my ultrascreen in 2 weeks and im really nervious! I hope it shows that everything is okay !

Sorry for so many questions, its just my first time being pregnant, and the LAST thing i expected was to find out I was having twins! I am so excited about it, but also very nervious and stressed!!!! Any tips or help is greatly appreciated!!!!
Thanks everyone!!!!

Re: First Pregnancy and having TWINS!

Congratulations and Welcome!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I was one of the lucky few who never had morning sickness, instead I had this insane hunger!!

I started showing early and was starting to wear maternity clothes around 14 weeks.

I was able to get pictures of Baby A and Baby B at EVERY sonogram...just ask them and they will give you some.

DH and I opted to not go for any genetic testing.

We found out the sexes at 18 weeks, although they weren't completely sure about Baby A until 22 weeks when I went for a Level II sonogram.

I am currently on bedrest and was put on at 28 weeks due to several risk factors

I am scheduled for a c-section because my Dr. prefers c-sections for multiples

I am now almost 33 weeks and still nervous, stressed and excited..but more excited than anything else as the date comes closer.

Wishing you a happy and healthy 9 months Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: First Pregnancy and having TWINS!

Congratulations!!!!

I was lucky to have very little morning sickenss. It ended around 13 weeks.

I started to show early. Around 10 or 11 weeks.

I will have a c-section. My Dr. Does not want me to go naturally due to some complications. This is my first pregnancy and I am terrified of being cut open.

I was put on bedrest at 23 weeks. I am working 2 days a week in the office and from home 3 days a week. When I am not in the office I have to be strictly in bed.

We get sonogram pictures every visit. We were able to tell that baby B was a boy around 13 weeks. Baby A they said looked like a girl but they could not be certain. She was confirmed a girl around 16 weeks. I see a high risk Dr so they looked as soon as they could to see the sexes.

As far as eating, my Dr. told me everything in moderation. I pretty much eat what I want within reason.

We did the NT scan and the Level II but did not do any further testing.

Congrats again and good luck!!!

Thanks hun!!! You are very lucky to not have had morning sickness! I thought i was getting it easy at first when i didnt have any. then it started creeping up on me and BAM hit full force LOL. I sure hope come 2nd trimester it gets better! Thats awesome you found out the sexes at 14 weeks! a lot of my friends didnt find out until 18 weeks or so, so its real good to know it could be sooner. Im already dying to know and cant wait to start shopping and preparing!!!!!
I will def ask for a picture at my next doc visit! I just assumed they didnt give them out so early. Now I will have to ask them why they didnt offer me one. :( And I will def check out the pregnancy board too! Thanks so much!!!!

wow bedrest so early?!?!?! i wish my doc would put me on it now with how sick ive been :( I hope i find out my babies are boy and girl~! Thats what we've always wanted. Im amazed to hear a lot of people have found out the sexes earlier than i was originally told. was this because of some testing, or the docs were just able to see it? I suppose it would be easier to tell if its a boy first huh? Chat Icon
How far along are you now? I too am petrified of getting cut open. some of my family told me things about c-sections that scared me, but then i spoke to other family members that recently had it done, and they all said it wasnt so bad. And the incision is actually pretty small.
Hope you have a healthy remainder of your pregnancy!!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Welcome and congrats!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

- I started "showing" at around 10wks, but it was really just bloating. I did start to wear maternity pants close to that time because they were much more comfy!

- My morning sickness/all day sickness was awful. It did go away after a few months, but then other things start...like cramping, and difficulty sleeping.

- I had a vaginal birth (induction). I was scheduled to have a c-section, but my DD turned vertex at the last minute. However, she did turn back breech by the time she was ready to be delivered. Luckily, I had a doc who did a lot of breech extractions with twins (she was a lot smaller than DS, so I felt ok about it).

- I was not on bedrest, but did have a blood clot in the beginning of my pregnancy and had to take it easy (from 5wks - 15wks).

- I saw an RE, so I had sono pictures to take home with me very early on. I would just ask when you get your next sono.

- I did not have any special genetic testing because we didn't have any reason to do so.

Have a happy and healthy pregnancy!!!!

Re: First Pregnancy and having TWINS!

Hi and congratulations!!! I'm 23 weeks pregnant with twins and like you i had terrible morning sickness....my Dr. ended up putting me on medication for it.....i wasn't keeping down any food or water. I was very sick until about 15 or 16 weeks....I'm still throwing up every morning but I'm fine by the time i get to work.
We did do the genetic testing at 12 and 15 weeks....my Dr. just does them... it was never really up for discussion whether I wanted them or not.
I also got sonogram pictures at every visit...from 6 weeks on. Next time just ask the tech to print some out for you.
Im going to have a c-section because i already had one with my first child. To be honest it really wasn't that bad. The recovery was OK. I'm hoping for a similar experience this time.
I started to show much earlier than with my fist pregnancy....probably around 12 or 13 weeks.
So far my pregnancy is going well and Im really hoping for no bedrest but you never know.
Good luck with everything!!! i hope you have a great 9 months!!!

Re: First Pregnancy and having TWINS!

First of all, congratulations and welcome to the site!

I am currently 18 weeks pregnant with identical twin girls. We were able to find out they were girls at a 16 week perinatologist sono appointment. Since my girls are identical my OB has sent me for sonos every 2 weeks (the girls share a placenta which is cause for a slightly higher risk pregnancy).

I plan on having a repeat c-section and am completely ok with it. While my section with my DS was not overly pleasant, it got the job done and in the end I got the best gift ever!

So far I have not been put on bedrest. My OB claims she doesn't believe in bedrest, but regardless I am a stay at home mom to a 2 year old...so bedrest would be nearly impossible for me.

My first sono pic to take home was at 6 weeks. Then I got more at 8 weeks, 12 weeks and 16 weeks. They just keep giving them to me, I never ask for them. Chat Icon

I have done all of the genetic testing and screening during this pregnancy and so far have received only good news. Only test I will decline is the amnio.

I think I answered all of your questions. Congrats again!! Chat Icon

Trust me you don't want to be on bed rest. LOL. I hate it! We found out early because we see a high risk and i think they were able to see so early because they have better equipment. If we had not been seeing the high risk and et sonograms weekly. My OB would not have even looked until about 16 or 17 weeks. Baby B was not shy about showing his stuff Chat Icon . I would not really listen to everyone else stories about the c-section or at least don't take it 100% seriously. Everyone's experience is totally different. I am just scared of being cut open. I know i wont feel anything because i have had the spinal before, but i can't stand the thought of being cut open. Good luck! Have a happy and healthy 9 months!

Re: First Pregnancy and having TWINS!

I am currently 26 weeks pregnant with a Chat Icon and a Chat Icon .

They had a good idea of the sexes pretty early..probably around 15 weeks but they told us not to go shopping just yet...but it turns out they were right the whole time

I had pretty bad morning sickness. It started around week 8 or 9 and continued full force until about week 13. From week 13 until week 20 or so I was sick a few days a week. I feel great now though!

I felt like I started to show by 10 weeks or so..I really had a bump by week 14. Now at 26 weeks I am growing by the day.

I have been on and off bedrest for the whole pregnancy due to a short cervix. I was on bedrest around week 12 for 3 weeks. I had a cerclage put in at that time. I was off bed rest until week 24 and now I work 3 days a week and am on bedrest for the rest of the time.

Congratulations on the twins!!!!! Hoping you feel better soon

i had morning sickness all through my pregnancy. i was an extreme case though. i was hosoitalized twice for dehydration and then put on the zofran pump for the nausea. i was throwing up like 20 times a day with the dry heaving. i lost weight during my pregnancy. i had a scheduled c section bc i always have with all my children. it was fine!!! the babies came at 36 weeks and they were 4 lbs 11 oz and 4 lbs 13 oz. we all came home 3 days later. they are 7 months now and it is just going by way too fast!!! i hope you have a happy and healthy pregnancy!!! having twins is absolutely wonderful!!!
