First Prenatal Visit Today
I'm kind of nervous, specifically because I have only been to a gynecologist once before today's visit in my entire life. What can I expect? Will they do an ultrasound today?

They will probably do an internal exam if one is needed and also an internal sonogram.. they will also take blood or send you to a lab for that.. at least thats what they did for me at my first appointment @ 8 weeks! Good luck!

how exciting! They will probably also do a pap smear- just a quick swab around inside to make sure that everything is ok and then of course the sonogram and you may get to hear the heart beat!
have fun!

Re: First Prenatal Visit Today
Aww! I was the SAME way. And I can tell you that if not for getting pregnant I STILL would not have gone. It's very bad, I know, but it's true. My medical phobias are out of control and I really should have sought help - but that's another story.
Bottom line- once you go for that first time, it's such a relief and a weight off your shoulders. I felt so good afterwards.
The first visit will be a Pap, a regular internal exam, a breast exam, and most likely an internal sono. Not sure if they do blood work at your Dr office- if not you'll get a script to go to the lab for that.
I can tell you- as the biggest Dr chicken (and esp Gyno chicken) in the world- it was NOT that bad. It was very fast and painless. AND I had to see the male Dr no less- the female was overbooked. I was freaking out but he turned out to be so nice that it didn't matter.
Just be honest and tell them that you haven't been good about going to the gyno for regular exams. I thought I'd get a lecture but the Dr was SO nice and assured me that it would not affect my pregnancy and that as long as I kept up with the appts now all would be ok...
Good luck!
