First round of blood test questions
I have my 2nd appt. with my doc on the 11th. Prior to that I have to get blood work done for spinal muscular atrophy and I guess a general blood workup. At the 1st appointment I remember him saying that I needed to fast for these tests but I failed to ask him for how long. I'm hoping to walk-in and go for the test this on Friday sometime. I just called my doc to ask but the office is closed. I'll call tomorrow but figured I could get a general idea here first.
Thoughts on when my last meal should be? And this includes water too right?
TIA

I never heard of fasting bloodwork where you can't drink water, let alone in pregnancy where it's so important to hydrate! I wouldn't eat after midnight though. That tends to be standard- so try and get it done early.

First round of blood test questions
I never heard of fasting for those tests? How many weeks are you? They did a ton of bloodwork at my first visit when I was 6 weeks, then at 12 weeks they did the Nucler fold test. Didn't do the spinabifida test until 16 weeks.. I guess every doctor's office is different

Some drs (mine anyway) do an initial workup on vitamin levels to see if you are deficient or anything and need supplements. Vitamin d is a big one - and for that you need to fast.

Ohh interesting.. Im surprised they haven't done that yet at my office. They just checked for iron this past week but that's really it vitamin wise.
