First Shots
My poor baby had his first shots today. He has been really out of it all evening. He even slept through his last feeding (he s#ucked but was sleeping!). We have been giving him tylenol every 4 - 6 hours as directed and he has a low grade fever (99.2). How long do these side effects last? What else should I look forward to tonight? Will he sleep all night? I gave him an early bath (around 5) to relax him, put him in his jammies and fed him at 7 (that was the feeding he slept though). I am going to "dream feed" him again in a few minutes and then swaddle hom and put hm to bed. It breaks my heart that he is so sad and in pain

Re: First Shots
Jack also had his 1st shots tonight so I'm curious to see whar advice is given here. He had them at 6:30 and has seemed tired and a little fussy. We were told not to give tylenol unless he had a fever of 101 rectally.

Re: First Shots
i might be wrong but when my son gets shots i give him tylenol before we even get out of the office!! i mean tylenol is not just for fever it reduces pain too! poor kids dont know what they're in for and all of a sudden they get hurt in their poor little legs!!! i hate watching it and i hate doing it to the babies on my unit! shots are just nasty!

Re: First Shots
They said not to just give it because it may "hide a fever" whatever that means. I'm so conflicted now. I'm just feeding him now, so if he falls asleep...will he wake up of he has a fever? how will I know. I'm afraid to sleep through it.

Re: First Shots
I found this:
Localised pain, redness and/or swelling at the site of the injection are common and some patients may be feverish and feel unwell. Symptoms usually occur within a few hours but resolve quite rapidly after 24-48 hours
I also want to add that any adverse reactions should be reported to your pedi so they can report it to VAERS.

Re: First Shots
Sorry I didn't respond earlier, I wasn't able to log on yesterday Thank you all for your replies. Jeremy slept 8 1/2 hours that night! He was sleepy but overall OK. Very low grade fever (about 99.2) and overall sleepyness. Last night, he slept 7 hours, ate and is now napping. That is more normal than the 8 1/2 hours from the night before!
Here are some pictures from yesterday, you can see the shots didn't really affect him too much!!
edited to add: We gave Jeremy tylenol every 4 - 6 hours (while he was awake - I DID NOT wake him) starting just before he got the shots.
