First Thanksgiving without my Grandparents
This year will be the first Thanksgiving without my grandparents (my mothers parents) My grandfather died this past April and my grandmother is now living in the Veterans home and is in no condition to come home for the holiday. We always celebrated my grandfathers birthday on Thanksgiving since it is Nov. 28th. He would have been 94!!!!! He was such a riot. Uhh....I know my mom is gonna be sad tomorrow. I was supposed to be going to the IL's but decided to spend it with my parents and my moms sister. I am just hoping that we have a nice day.

Re: First Thanksgiving without my Grandparents
Maybe try to turn the day into a positive one and share happy memories you have of your grandfather and grandmother before she was sick.
I spent every Thanksgiving of my life at my aunt and uncle's house before they died. I was so close to them and it hurts everyday that they're not here anymore. Thanksgiving is always really hard for me, too, so I completely understand where you are coming from. I know it won't be easy, especially this first year, but know that your grandfather is with you in spirit. This year you can be thankful that you had him in your life for the time that you did.
Many to you and your family this year.

Thanks Yeah, 93 years! He lived a long, wonderful life! The funniest thing about my grandfather is that he could remember my wedding date but couldn't remember Dh's name. He always called him "Bob" and when I would tell him "no, grandpa it's John" He would say "who's John?"

Re: First Thanksgiving without my Grandparents
Thanks girls. My mom called me the other day feeling guilty for wanting to celebrate christmas and put up a tree and decorate and everything but I told her that if she didn't, she would be even more depressed. My mom LOVES decorating and having everyone over for a HUGE Christmas Eve feast....my grandfather could suk down clams like you wouldn't believe!!

i agree with Kara, maybe reminisce about the wonderful memories, everyone say something they rmember (if it's not too hard for some ) maybe take out some photos to look at when youre done eating.
