First time moms: What are you most concerned about?

I think one of my biggest concerns is having to go back to work. I just hope I can manage it all. I'm sure it will be fine once I adjust to a new routine, but I still worry.

A close second...I'm just worried about being overly paranoid about everything. I could see myself checking to see if she's breathing a hundred times a day.

PSA: My DH and I took a CPR class that covered infant cpr and heimlich manuever (sp). I have to say I found it to be very informative.

Anyone else want to share any of their concerns?

Honestly, it's not the baby I'm so worried about, it's how the baby, and the baby's crying and thus our lack of sleep will affect our (DH and I) relationship. Just watching all my friends go through this already (I'm one of the last of them to have babies) I see how much strain it puts on a marriage. Don't get me wrong, i'm not worried that we're going to get divorced over it or anything, i have faith in our relationship and I know we're strong, but I've seen rock solid relationships sooo tested by the stress and emotion and lack of sleep that a newborn brings. And just reading the parenting board too, it seems that constant bickering and fighting and second-guessing is the norm. While it makes me feel better that it's totally normal for couples to go through this, it worries me nonetheless. I already brought this up to my DH and we've agreed to remember to respect and not forget to show how much we care about each other, regardless of how frustrated we may be. So, that's my biggest concern is just staying connected to DH and staying positive, no matter hard it is and how tired we are.

Re: First time moms: What are you most concerned about?

nothing about the baby really but i absolutely HATE my job now and am hoping to get a new one during the summer (right after my maternity leave and during my summer break). i'm afraid though that i won't be able to find something i like and/or something that pays well. i also need benefits (i'm the one with them for me and dh right now) or dh needs to get a new job with benefits (he's looking too). i'm just afraid i'll have to go back to this hell hole. don't get me wrong - i'll do what i have to do and we have a few options but i'm afraid i'll be stuck between choosing what's best for my family and what i want career-wise...

Re: First time moms: What are you most concerned about?

hmmm...i guess i'm most concerned about not being able to calm the baby down if he/she is sick. plus with family in a different state, it's just gonna be DH and I "winging" it. i Chat Icon that we'll be good parents regardless!

I agree with this. I am also afraid that I'm not going to know what Chat Icon needs when they're so little.

Money is of course a worry - I think we all are feeling that, especially these days.

I am also very scared of the whole delivery thing. I can't help it!

And I can't wait to have my first check up to make sure my baby is safe and healthy - Feb 23 can't come quick enough.

Ok I'm done now. Chat Icon
