First week home

So Im going crazy trying to figure out what I NEED during the first week home. Is there a list of sorts...or can we put together some must haves?
Like...I know...
*carseats must be in
*swaddle blankets
*will the swing come in handy? Bouncer? Or is it too early?
*How many onesies?
*Diapers, cloths, ointment, body wash, tub (do you put the baby in the tub that early?)
Im so lost and the times a tickin...

Re: First week home

Car seats in-ready for the trip home from the hospital-do this in advance!

Some clothes washed, some towels washed, hats, socks, burp cloths, blankets, onesies all washed. You don't need a lot right away, but just to start with.

Have some diapers ready-wipes.

You can have the swing or bouncer if you want, so you can put him/her down safely.

You do not put the baby in the tub that soon, baby gets cotton ball baths before the umbilical cord falls off. You can't get it wet.

I'm not really sure since I haven't been through it yet, but have been planning myself. Based on what I've read, I'm planning on having the swing and rocker ready the first week, lots of sleep n plays, onesies, side snap tees, diapers, ointments, body wash and washcloths (no tub- sponge baths only until the umbilical stump falls off), burp cloths, and other feeding related items (I'm planning on breastfeeding, so some stuff related to that), boppy pillow and boppy newborn lounger, sling carrier, stroller, receiving blankets, soothie pacifiers, diaper bag filled with stuff. That's what I'm up to so far.

ETA- sleep sacks and swaddle me, car seat will be installed in one of my parents' cars (we don't own a car because we live in Manhattan right now.) Also, the medical stuff- like the nasal aspirator, a thermometer, and stuff like that.

Re: First week home

Yes, you need the swing. We put DD right in it and she loved it and would nap in there.

Make sure you have plenty of diapers and wipes on hand.

Yes, make sure you have onesies, at least 10. Same thing with bibs and burp cloths.

Make sure all your bottles and their parts are cleaned and sterilized. If you are going to use binkys, make sure they are clean and sterilized too.

Make sure your crib or bassinett is set up and clean.

Rest up! You're gonna need it!

lol! I've been getting pretty obsessed recently. FH has been nesting too. It's cute and funny. We've stored almost everything at my parents' house until last weekend. We were there on Sunday and he immediately grabbed me and took me to the storage area and said we have to decide what we need right now. So we went thru everything and made these decisions :) Then we got home at about 10pm and he put the bassinet/co-sleeper together, while I went through all her clothes and figured out how much more we need in newborn and 0-3, and then made a pile of stuff to wash. He wanted me to pack my hospital bag last weekend, but I didn't. Now this weekend we are away. He's going to realize I didn't do it soon and make me do it one night. Chat Icon Chat Icon
