Fitness instructors : I need help please
Hi,
So I teach a class Monday evenings in Westbury at Sweat NY. It is called "cardoi fusion" but the members want it to be step. I try to oblige but I am out of practice as step classes are hard to come by recently.
They say my music is too slow, but when I try to find step music it is all a slow cadence. Slower than I'd use for step. I have been using the most upbeat step songs I have. Can you give me suggestions. On itunes the "step" cds are all slower than what I have.

I haven't purchased music in a long time, because I'm currently not teaching, but you've tried Muscle Mix Music, Work This, or PowerMusic? They were always some of my top vendors. I had another, but I'm blanking.
You don't have a tempo controller? Because most of the time I always increased the speed anyway. I liked my advanced steps classes fast

Move Ya, was another one I used to use.
I googled to see, & noticed there are a ton of new ones out there, maybe you'll see one with the beats you need.
If you need to brush up, have you considered the ECA or a similar convention? I used to get my BEST choreography & inspiration by those instructors....they are amazing!

I don't teach step, but I think that they want 130 -135 bpm. iTunes usually doesn't have bpms listed with their songs/fitness 'albums' but the sites suggested above do.
If you use an iPod to teach, there's an app called tempo magic pro that will adjust the bpms on your songs.

Dynamix has decent music. From what I remember, step should be around 135-145 bpm.

Re: Fitness instructors : I need help please
the iSweat fitness albums have a bunch that are around 140bpm. You can get them on itunes for about $10 for a 45-60min playlist.
I think you may be running into trouble because Step Classes are becoming contraindicated for gen. pop. participants. So I'm thinking there hasn't been much new step music put out, but you can use pretty much any fitness music with a steady beat.

Thanks all. I just bought an iSweat album. We shall see how this goes tonight. I love instructing. I don't love step, lol! And I know it can be very bad for some people. I understand why it is becomming contraindicated and wish they'd just let me teach them spin or fusion.

How did the class go?? Any better.
I hate when you have to give people what they want rather than what they need, that part of the fitness world sucks!

Re: Fitness instructors : I need help please
Step music in general never goes over 120 bpm because technically, you can't keep safe form going faster than that, so it can't be sold as step music faster than that.
However...
When I taught step a gajillion years ago, my classes were full of friggen psychopaths so I would use 135-150 bpm and would purchase cardio kickboxing music from power muc, dynamix, etc.... I am SO picky when it comes to music but back then there wasn't such thing as downloads. iTunes sells workout music.... Check it out. But also dj's now mix up current hits for fitness instructors, so try looking there as well. These days dynamix, power, etc aren't the only choices anymore!!!
Eta I always HATED teaching step!!!! I love ECA
