Fleas on indoor cats??? Really???

Ugh- I have no clue how this happened but both my indoor cats are infested with fleas!
They NEVER go out.
The only thing I can think of is that they like to sit right up against the screen door on my slider- can fleas jump through a screen?
Or maybe we carried them in on our feet?

Anyway- we did Frontline and they seem to be better but I still see the occasional flea walking on them- I am guessing there are still fleas living in the house and they are jumping on the cats and then dying off after they bite due to the Frontline.

Anyone have experience with this? How long does it take to be completely rid of them?

Indoor cats can get them...who knows how but they can.

I think you will need to use the frontline for at least 3-4 mths to break the life cycle. But honestly if I had indoor pets infested with them, I would likely use the frontline for a LONG LONG LONG time....fleas are persistent. And you may see live fleas on your pet even though they had Frontline...that doesn't mean it's not working. IT IS...the fleas will die eventually and def are sterliized.

Thanks! Yes we plan to keep using it as directed every month.
I can imagine they are in the house and just jumping back on the cats. GROSS!

I feel so bad for them too- they are so itchy... poor babies!!!

Re: Fleas on indoor cats??? Really???

We just dealt with this with our dog.. he already had frontline on so he wasn't infested but we did find a few on him and in the house. We combed him and our cat with a flea comb everyday and vacuumed the entire house, including furniture everyday for 3 weeks (yes 3 weeks!) Also washed the bedding every other day. We may have gone extreme but I am crazy when it comes to bugs

That's what is going on but that is the way the product works! Better the fleas jump on the treated pets than you!!!

What Goobster suggested.

BTW, fleas in indoor cats isn't uncommon. Even people can carry fleas inside -- and I don't mean people infested with fleas. Chat Icon

my indoor cat at my moms got them. We think it was from the screen door. She laid there all the time. I can swear that was what it was.

We got some flea med and it was gone.

Crazy right?!

Re: Fleas on indoor cats??? Really???

We had an incident with this a few years ago - we had 2 indoor cats, lived in a 2nd floor apt, we found out SD's dog at BM's house was infested with fleas and brought them with her Chat Icon - instead of doing the frontline, we locked both kitties in the master bath, sprayed and cleaned the apt like loonies, I took both cats (one by one, both declawed ) into the shower, washed them down with flea wash shampoo and that was the end of it - a ONE time incident, NEVER had them again....

Hope that helps, I did have DH in the bathroom with me so I could hand him the wet cat to dry off and he could hand me the new one to wash, PLUS I made sure I was wearing a tank top and shorts, I couldn't imagine a claw in a sensitive area Chat Icon

went thru same thing. i have 3 pets on fron$line and took months of treatments to get rid of them. We treated our yards, our couch, carpets, & washed anything that would fit in washer.
I do thought Fron$line wld work instantly for the money I paid for it ($50 3-pack). Dont stop treating...those bastards will come right back.

Takes a while since fleas produce quickly and in large numbers. Won't see instant results if you already had the infestion....it only works quickly if the pet is ON it already when the flea jumps on. If you use it after an infestation has started already, it will take a few mths to get things under control.
