Flood Insurance?

As most of you know the National Weather Service is predicting severe weather for the east coast, including New York. Most home owners insurance does not cover water damage.

Re: Flood Insurance?

didn't they also say that all companies who offer flood insurance are already overextended or something? that if they had to pay out if the east coast should flood, they wouldn't be able to?

Islandia

Islandia is right smack in the middle of LI, so as far as storm surges, I don't think you have to worry about that.

But IMO, I would get flood insurance. water damage is just the WORST!

We just purchases it. We are in W. Babylon. Not right on the water but close enough to worry.

I hope we never have to use it but I feel better now that we have it.

Re: Flood Insurance?

HOw much does it usually run. We are just one mile away from the water, so it wasn't required...but Chat Icon you have me really thinking.

Does your area flood ever? When we had those heavy rains last year was there flooding? If your area didn't flood than I would say no.

I didn't mean to scare anyone but it's been discussed on the news a couple of times.

Here are other articles I found as well,

Re: Flood Insurance?

I don't know specifics on flood insurance, but my neighbor claimed water damage and was dropped from her insurance and was then blacklisted by most insurance companies!

just something to think about

Re: Flood Insurance?

Our flood insurance is $352.00 a year through AllState that is part of the Federally funded flood insurance plan.

A bit of a crimp in our budget but when you think about how much you would have to pay if there was flood damage in your home, its well worth it.

Re: Flood Insurance?

It is not required by our bank. We just purchased it. We paid $352. We are in Lindenhurst and North of Montauk Hwy but South of Sunrise. We are approx 13 feet above sea level. A Cat 2 hurricane in the right spot puts a potential 7 feet of water in our neighborhood.

It takes 30 days for it to take effect so if you want it don't hesitate too long.

Here is a link that will let you see predicted storm surge maps for you area.
