Re: fluffy dog owners!
I have the same problem too. Usually when we get her groomed we ask them to shave around the butt, but the last time we went they didn't do it Anyway, its usually only a problem if she has a soft poop, then we just wipe her butt with a wet wipe.

Hey Jes! My friend that has poms usually just keeps the hair around that area in a tighter trim than the rest. She also keeps the doggie wipes (Quick Bath I think it is called) handy for any messes.

Re: fluffy dog owners!
If its not too bad I am able to wipe it off, but most of the time I just give him a bath when that happens.

Re: fluffy dog owners!
Not a dog, but I have a very fluffy cat (Maine Coon). For a long time, his nickname was poopybutt, it was gross. He's grown out of that somehow. I was trimming his fur probably once every two weeks, it was just easier and I didnt need to worry it everyday.

Re: fluffy dog owners!
we try to keep her butt area as shaved as possible - but sometimes in between grooming appts. there is some more hair there. If I notice that there is a piece of tiny dried poop then DH will hold her - I'll get it out with a wipe or a wet paper towel - and then I'll cut the longer hairs with a scissor.

Re: fluffy dog owners!
You do need to cut/buzz the entire butt area. Also you can keep a box of baby wipes near your door and just do a routine swipe when the dog comes in. Othewise the dog will probably be doing some 'scooting' around the house trying to get it off. They know it's there.

Re: fluffy dog owners!
Target has these great wipes that we use.
They smell nice and they clean him off well.
I think they are called Quick Bath.
