flying out of MacArthur
How long does it take to get through security at MacArthur? We usually fly out of JFK or LGA. Everyone says that MacArthur security is super quick, but no one can estimate how long it usually takes lol. I don't want to arrive super early and sit around, but I also don't want to cut it close. How long before the flight should I plan on arriving? TIA

I take 10-20 flights a year from MacArthur. I aim to get there at the check in gate 45-60 minutes prior to takeoff so i can check a bag if needed.
Security is usually 10 minutes or so. Sometimes it's longer. But the nice thing is if they know it's going to be busy they open a second bag lane and/or PRE so it usually doesn't go past 20 minutes.
I never arrive to MacArthur more than an hour prior to my flight time. Get there an hour prior. Check bag. Go through security. Usually at the gate at least 30 before takeoff, right before they start pre-boarding.

I find it can vary greatly there. I have walked right through before and I’ve waited 20+.

It's the best airport ever. The line for Starbucks is usually longer than the line for security.
I'd arrive.an hour before

So so so quick! The most I’ve waited is 15 minutes and that was when all the snow birds were heading back to Florida
I love that airport!

Thanks everyone! I was hoping 1 hr would be sufficient. I think our flight is early, so I don't want to leave the house at 4 am if I don't have to lol

We had a super early flight. We got there, we were like the only people there. It took longer for me to get my order at the Starbucks than it did for me to get my family of 5 through security.

I think it depends on when you are traveling. I've been there when the line was so long and people were missing flights because of it. That was a holiday week (maybe Spring break)

I have to say it’s usually quick but in August we were one of the first flights out and the line for security took forever. People were panicking about missing their flights and we pretty much got through to get right on line to board. We were there with Over an hour before our flight time.

We flew out of MacArthur for the first time this past June and getting through security was a breeze.
