If you flew with an infant and needed to bring formula, juice, BM - how did you do it? did you allow it to be x-rayed ? if you did not, what rules did you follow and what did they do to check it? also what about bringing medications? I read the website and still a bit unsure of the procedures.

I haven't flown out of MacArthur wth an infant but I have at JFK. For my formula bottles they stick a test strip in it. I was also able to bring juice for my toddler. They did the same thing with the test strip. Oh and it did go through the X-ray with my diaper bag. I never thought anything of that. I don't know about medications.

I fly with my dd's medications all the time. Its fine - you just have to separate it from the rest of the stuff and "declare it" .. which just means you tell them you have medication lol. Islip doesn't always test it but other airports do.

I’ve always had any liquids x rayed in the diaper bag. I would keep them all there.
They chemical test the bottle (outside if sealed) and your hands. They put you through metal detectors but no X-ray.
I always tell them ahead of time about liquids for baby.
For meds, they are never super high volume (I travelled with Tylenol, etc), but sure it’s the same.
Wet wipes will actually cause a manual bag search so point those out too!
Never flew from McArthur but same process for every other airport (jfk, Newark, Philly, LGA etc)

How do they chemical test the bottle if sealed? What do they swab it with? what do you mean with meds are never super high volume?

what about pills? Any issue with those or just send those through X-ray?

You can fly with a certain volume of liquids: 3.4 ounces each, as many containers you can fit in a quart size zip lock bag. Most meds are under that. I even think a good deal of sunscreens are under that too.

They test the outside of the sealed liquid (for me it was ready to feed formula bottles). They run the strip on the top and another in your hands and test it. Just separate out meds and liquids and tell them as you are getting screened. Only time I’ve seen an issue was when someone was trying to bring lots of liquids on board for an older kid (not an infant).

My dd's meds have done both. I think it depends on the person working. Some times they let it just go thru the xray and that's it - and sometimes they take it right away and test it. I believe they stuck the strip right in it but not 100%. They didn't pour out any or at least not enough for me to notice

Yes they tested it every time at JFK even though it went through X-ray. They put the strip in it, I didn't pour any out. is that bad? Lol sorry I never thought much about it.

Oh and I've only had my hands swabbed if I was carrying the baby through the metal detector.

I've flown out of Islip 2X so far. While I did not have premade bottles of formula, I did have her bottles pre-filled with water, along with her powdered formula and medicines (gas drops and tylenol).

The first time I removed the bottles, formula and medicine from her diaper bag and placed into a separate bin- all they did was take a small amount of powered formula to test it- that was all.

The second time, I did the same as above, and in addition to testing the formula, they also tested the water.

I wore her through the metal detector and they swabbed my hands both times.

As for the gas drops and medicine, they never tested either.
