I wouldn't -- my DD slept the whole flight after take-off. Have a bottle and some snacks ready and I bet that's all you'll need.

yeah right when we take off, he'll be ready for bottle #2. But nothing with my ds ever goes well, so i'll be completely shocked if he does well for the flight. Chat Icon

i highly doubt he'll sleep. Chat Icon

DVD Player, even for Jacen's age! I've never given benedryl (and we've flown a lot with C3)

Also, Christine (ckgm) gave me a great time before the first time we flew, bring a lot more prepared formula than you would think, they get hungry when traveling!

Re: Flying w/baby & benadryl

For the record, this is not directed at the OP because she has already stated she is not doing this. It just boggles my mind that so many people seem to think this is a great suggestion to make to her?

I have flown with DD tons of times, including on a red eye to Madrid. I have only had one bad flight with her and we dealt with it. No, it wasn't a great time, but you deal with it and move on. There are certainly worse things in life.

Seriously, has our society really come to the point where we are drugging our kids up with benedryl so that they stay quiet and we don't have to "deal" with them on airplanes? If you don't want to deal with possible bad flight, don't fly. Benedryl is not recommended for children that age, so I'm baffled that people actually do this.

Sorry for the rant. It just bugs me.

I have zero interest in dealing with my child on a plane. Stickers, treats, DVD player, boob flying out of my shirt every 5 minutes...no. he was tortured.

I was never one to let my baby cry ever.

If I heard a baby screaming for hours on a flight, I would hope the mother had tylenol or something on her to give.

Re: Flying w/baby & benadryl

How long is the flight? I have done it, my daughter is a terrible sleeper we took a flight business class for almost 12 hours...so my dr. suggested and boy was I glad I took the suggestion.

If it's a short flight, I wouldn't bother.

Don't let anyone talk you into it or out of it....do what is good for you.

When I did it, it wasn't because I didn't want to "Deal" with my child. It was because I knew that she was going to be miserable and overtired.

I don't have a choice about flying with her - if I don't fly - we don't see our family.

Re: Flying w/baby & benadryl

We used it on a flight to Miami connecting to Jamaica because Bella had terrible allergies in the spring and the doctor actually recommended it in addition to her prescribed meds.

It helped her sleep a bit, but she was awake most of the flight...

Well said.

My DD was a TERROR on the last plane ride, but even so, I would never drug her to make her sleep.

Re: Flying w/baby & benadryl

its benadryl, no one is shooting up heroin.

I don't think its safe to have kids running up and down aisles...I think its torture to have a kid scream for all those hours.

I am not a fan of flying, if I can help it, I drive. (driving to ny this month instead of flying)

Re: Flying w/baby & benadryl

I drug myself to fly because I'll puke all over the place if I don't. My parents used to give me Benadryl for car trips. I turned out fine with the exception of spending a little too much time on the Internet and an addiction to cheese products.
