Flying with a 2 year old

Does anyone have any suggestions for flying with a 2 year old.

We will be going to California at the end of the month we are trying to decide if we should put the car seat on the plane or check it.

Also does anyone know if you can still gate a small stroller?

On the way out we have one flight from CT to Philadelphia and then directly from there to Calif.

Way back it is a direct flight.

you can gate any stroller - shouldn't be a problem - easier for you that it is small.

DS flew in a car seat at 2 years and we brought some toys, but the best was a PSP that had some shows on it for him.

He will be flying at 2 3/4 and I don't think we are bringing his carseat on the plane - but mostly b/c we will have #2 to tote around
