Food Allergy - What to look for?

I gave Thomas Applesauce last night and this morning for the first time with his cereal. He LOVED it!! It was the cutest thing!!Chat Icon

When he woke from his nap this morning, I noticed what I think is a scratch with redness around it. The scratch is very faint though... The redness makes it look like a hive.

Can anyone tell what what exactly to look for?

Thanks!

We gave Christopher bananas two days in a row and on the second night he had hives on his torso. I stopped giving them and they went away, so I am assuming that it was the bananas.

Oh, DS wasn't bothered by the hives at all, they looked worse than they were.

When we gave my DD applesauce for the first time she had a slight reaction. On the 2nd day she had a few bumps on her cheeks. When we stopped the applesauce the bumps went away. Our ped. said to hold off the applesauce for now. She loved pears and was totally fine with that. HTH

Thanks for responding!

Did you call the ped, or will you just not give him bananas anymore and mention it at next visit?

I wish I knew if this is a hive or he just scratched himself... There is only one though, so maybe it is just a scratch. I'll watch closely for more...

Thanks!

So the ped was recommending to stop applesauce for a while, but not saying that she'd be allergic forever?

How does it work - if they have a reaction now, is it likely that they will outgrow it? Reintroduce that fruit at a later time?

I didn't bother calling the ped b/c he wasn't bothered by it and it was a Friday night and I didn't feel it was an emergency. I stopped giving him the bananas and have given if applesauce and peaches and he didn't have a problem with either.

Keep an eye on him, maybe he just scratched himselfChat Icon

My ped. said to stop for a month or so then try again. It doesn't necessarily mean they would have the allergy forever. It's just for whatever reason it affected them. They are still so small. I hope all goes well.
