food allergy question

DD has had egg whites maybe 3-4 times. a couple of days ago, nanny gave db scrambled eggs (yolk and white) for lunch. which i was fine with. she called me about 20 minutes later, that db's face got red, and her eye was puffy. i told her to give a little benadryl, and she told me it went away within 10 minutes.
now, nanny is very overprotective of db- very overcautious. also, she had taken db outside after feeding her, and she sarted gettign red then. what do i do now? not that i dont believe nanny, but its not lie ki saw it to knwo what was going on. (next time, i;m going to tell nanny to take a pic)
should i offer eggs agin when i'm home? or wait to talk to ped?

Re: food allergy question

not sure how old your DC is. They say not to give them egg whites until after they are 1 years old specifically because of allergies. I'm assuming you knew that though because you specifically mentioned the egg whites.

If it were me I'd probably ask the ped. or wait it out until DC is over 1, if he or she isn't already. That's just me. I think it is possible to not have had a reaction before. A few months ago I didn't know that DS shouldn't have berries so I gave him a strawberry/banana baby food container. He reacted fine the first few times (maybe 2 or 3 times). Then one day I gave it to him and he broke out in red bumps everywhere. And then of course I researched here and learned that berries were a no-no at a young age.

HTH!

Just a couple of thoughts.

1- The puffy eye and redness in the face could be from enviornmental allergies (you said the nanny took DC outside after eating).

2- An allergic reaction doesn't always happen right away. You can eat something 100 times and on the 101th time have a reaction.

3- It's usually the egg white that will cause the allergic reaction. I don't think it had anything to do with the nanny giving the yolk.

4- Call the ped and explain what happened - I would follow his/her advice on how to proceed.

to clarify- nanny gave scrambled eggs- yolk and white together.
also, - i figure the reaction coudl be from the outside, thats why i included it.
