Food issues/aversions

Do they go away? I have some serious food issues now. I'm not really nauseaus anymore although if I try to make myself eat something I don't want I will yak easily.
It seems that lunch and dinner time is so hard for me because everything grosses me out! Even things I ate before. Nothing seems "fresh" or clean enough. It's really weird.
I can't really go 9 months on sushi, orange juice, fruit and ice cream can I?
Those are the only things that seem "clean" to me.Chat Icon

I had a bad aversion to peanut butter, every time i smelled it i would run to the nearest bath room but the last couple weeks have been fin with it. I had some toast with peanut butter this weekend for breakfast. I guess it all depends on the person.

Re: Food issues/aversions

yes, you can absolutely live on those things throughout your pregnancy... your baby will take what it needs from you. plus, they're pretty healthy foods!

but the aversions shouldn't last... they do tend to go away in the second tri. i had all kinds of aversions and food "phases" in my first pregnancy (and in this one too, but less). last time around there was a 2 week period where all i ate were apples and almonds! but it all faded awayin the early second tri and was gone by about 17-18 weeks.

if you've had a really nasty reaction to something the aversion may stick around (one of my friends STILL can't look at chicken, her child is 20 months) but it's rare.

hang in there!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Food issues/aversions

I had the same thing in the first tri, I wanted clean and fresh things. I could only mostly eat fruit and a few other things like breads, cheese, etc.

Most of the aversions started to go away around 12-13 weeks but I still have a huge aversion to onions, peppers and really seasoned chicken breast (all of which I ate before)!

I had a few at the beginning, now at 16 weeks I'm pretty much ok with everything.

Re: Food issues/aversions

Ugh....I am 17 1/2 weeks and STILL can't stand the smell of cooked food...everything is gross to me and I have no desire for anything other than fruits and bread! I am now forcing myself to eat a grilled chicken ceasar salad and the chunk of chicken i just ate got spit out into my napkin...this stinks!

I had aversions to just about everything in the first trimester. Most of it has gone away & I can pretty much eat whatever I want now. Chat Icon

I have been having an aversion to all things chicken. I am almost 14 weeks and I don't see it lessening. My mother had a similar aversion to chicken which lasted way after the baby was born.Chat Icon
