Foods that are good for people watching their weight
Hi ladies! Could you please list any food items that you buy that are not high in fat or calories that actually taste good. I really need to start watching what i eat but it's so hard because I love food. So if you ladies buy a certain food product that isn't bad for you that actually tastes good, please share! Could be any type of food product like snacks, meals, desserts, etc so I can add to my shopping list. Thanks!

Re: Foods that are good for people watching their weight
When I was doing WW, here were a few of my tips:
-homemade veggie soup with no oil. Sometimes I would add some beans or chicken for protein. You can do any combo of veggies, saute and then add broth and if you want diced tomatoes for a red broth
-Veggies and hummus
-Plain nonfat yogurt with fresh fruit (or frozen, defrosted) and only a little bit of honey
-Whatever I was making, I tried to double my portion of veggies and add more to the recipe. For example, making stirfry, I doubled the veggies and had less meat/rice. I would add frozen spinach to pastas, meatloaf, etc.
-Egg whites with spinach/low fat feta/tomatoes. Use only minimal oil when cooking
-Grill chicken breasts and then use throughout the week on sandwiches, salads, etc.

Tips: -Grill your meats -Replace oil with chicken broth when cooking -Use low calorie dressings (avoid blue cheese, heavily processed salad dressings, sour cream, heavy cream based sauces, etc.) and replace with vinegars, mustards, soy sauce, canned tomatoes, etc.

Oh yes pp mentioned oatmeal. Excellent.
Also stay away from frozen foods. Too much sodium.

Re: Foods that are good for people watching their weight
The more "natural" (less processed) the better.
As a general rule, if it's the perimeter of the supermarket, it's the healthiest, so stay away from aisles.
Anything full of fiber (so start reading food labels) the better. Better for bulk-full feeling & digestion. A little fat will help you stay satisfied longer. Avoid sugar items that will cause you to spike & then dip quick & cause your to feel like your crashing.
The other foods are great. Start experimenting. I add veggies to everything I cook (specially pastas, potatoes, rice) so I filll up on them, but yet still get a "fix" for the other item.
Fishes, white meat chicken, beans, wheat/low calorie bread, wheat pasta, brown rice, oatmeal, Greek yogurt (more protein). Fruit, veggies, laughing cow cheese or hummus is a great snack with a few crackers or raw veggies.

Re: Foods that are good for people watching their weight
I buy pineapple in the can (in juice) and keep in the fridge at work - it's sweet (but of course not as good as fresh) and just enough for a snack.
Greek yogurt which others mentioned is another good one (the 2% Fage is delish) - I add dried fruit, a touch of honey and some granola w/flax seed.
I also love part skim string cheese!

Re: Foods that are good for people watching their weight
Oh yeah i keep a bag of granola with nuts/dried fruits at work to nibble all day. Very filling
Also started buying the bags of baby carrots to munch on as well so you get the crunchy texture
We just bought a whole pineapple and yes its so delish fresh. Kept chunks in the fridge for dessert
Love the other suggestions too

Re: Foods that are good for people watching their weight
Hummus Pita Bread Turkey Pepperoni String Cheese
I actually often make a meal out of this and add veggies I may have in the fridge, like tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, which I dip into the hummus for flavor. You can also add grilled chicken or some other type of protein to make it even more filling.
I also do really simple pita pizzas with whatever sauce I have on hand, low or fat free mozzarella, turkey pepperoni, veggies, etc. Pretty much whatever I have on hand and/or want.
A lot of what other posters have mentioned - fruits and veggies, oatmeal, yogurt.
I do my fair share of frozen meals as well, although not really the best option but good for convenience.
Also, I absolutely love the Fiber One Brownies. They are 90 calories and come in chocolate and caramel. They are a great snack, good size, and totally give you that fix when the chocolate craving hits.
