For Parents whose DC has/had severe milk allergy-when did you reintroduce formula milk based?
GI wants us to start, DD had a SEVERE reaction and he thinks at almost 7 months she has outgrown it and wants me to introduce a little nutramigen in her Amino Acid (Neocate) formula... How did you do it and does this seem to soon? I dread going through scream fits again but maybe i am paranoid...

I just asked the pediatrician at DD's last visit and he said we would try to add a small amount of milk to her formula at a year, and any reaction and we would wait to try again until 15 months. He said that if there wasn't a reason for me to take her off of Neocate, I shouldn't.

We tried reintroducing milk at about 10 months and DS was a mess.
he didn't have an allergic reaction like initially (hives on face, etc.) but he was super cranky and went from STTN to waking every 2-3 hrs, plus his stool was mucousy.
We just tried again starting about 3 weeks ago (at 13 mos) and this time he seems perfectly fine. No reactions at all so far.
Our ped said to try every 2-3 months.

My DD was on neocate for protein allergy..
My ped told us to try yogurt and cheese first..she didn't do well on those at 10-11 months so we skipped milk until she was about 13 months then we introduced it slowly mixing it with the neocate. Ever since she's been fine. Thank god she grew out of it!

We never did. DS was diagnosed by his pediatrician with a milk protein allergy at about 6 months based on blood in his stool, severe eczema on his face and limbs, projectile vomiting, etc. and was put on Neocate after Neutramigen didn't work.
Then at about 10 months his pediatrician ran a RAST allergy panel and he was diagnosed as having a severe dairy allergy, which was then confirmed by his allergist with skin tests. His allergist does annual skin and blood tests and until the numbers look better she doesn't want him ingesting any dairy products.
We never saw a GI.

Yeah, i think i am going to take her to the allergist..i have noticed a red rash developing on her anal area and she is having green loose stools... I just dont want to do anything that is going to really upset her..and she has already woken up 2 times since going down screaming...it is not worth it.. She is thriving well but maybe because she hasnt been on that formula.. I just dont want to do it and have it occur all over again...
