I am officially on the milk allergy/ switching formula roller coaster--and I have insurance questions.....
I'll keep it short for now b/c it has been a long day for a lot of reasons (who am I kidding? This did not turn out to be a short post). DS was fine for his first 5-6 weeks on Enfamil (first 2 weeks was a combo of breastmilk and Enfamil then I had to stop BFing). He started to have problems with bowel movements. He was not constipated but he would cry and scream for a few hours before every bowel movement and he became very gassy. So, under the direction of our ped. we tried some of the common remedies and tried Gentlease then when that did not work enough we tried soy (Isomil). We saw an improvement but today marked a week on soy formula and he is still very fussy. We were able to get a same day appointment with a GI specialist. Sure enough, he tested positive for blood in his stool. We are to try ailimentum for 2 weeks and if that does not work, we will go to one of the other formulas that is commonly used for this type of problem. I know so many people who have formula problems (here and IRL) and I have prayed for those babies and prayed it would not happen to me! I was reading some old posts about getting help from Apria for coverage for formula. Does that seem to work for Ailmentum? The GI doctor seemed very willing to cooperate with whatever we need to get formula covered. I already left a prescription with my pharmacist, who is going to try to help me. Should I let him do his thing or go right to this Apria service? At this point I thought I would wait and see if my pharmacist gets denied. Shouldl I start this process even though I was warned that Ailimentum may not work out and we might have to switch again? I just hope we do not have to go through much more to get Dylan on track with something that agrees with him!!!!

How old is he? How long did you have him on Gentlease? You have only had him on soy for a week? You aren't going to see results IMMEDIATELY, it took about 2 weeks for the Gentlease to kick in for us.
Personally, I think you may be switching him around a little bit too much, he is going to be fussy and gassy if you keep changing his formula at this point. I would stick to one for more than just a week or two before you change it again.

I've never changed formulas without consulting a doctor and the GI doctor felt that if the soy was going to be okay, he would not have blood in his stool after being on it for a full week. I have heard of people switching after trying something for 2-3 days and I would agree, that is to quick.

Sorry to hear about your DC allergy. If there was blood in the stool Gentleease is not going to work.
Honestly just call Apria. It's a 5 minute call and they generally get back to you within a day. They were SOOOOO easy to work with. I've posted the info a ton of times, but if you need anything just FM me.
I use Nutramigen (Enfamil's version of Alimentum). It took almost 3 weeks to see a noticable difference in DD since she had sores on her intensines from being fed regular formula for so long (5 weeks.) They had to heal before I saw an improvement. However, some need something stronger if they have a severe allergy.
I hope it's covered!!!

We had to switch DD's formula to the alimentum but before we called Apria we tried it out first for a week. We saw an improvement and called Apria. The process took 3-4 days. Our first shipment was 6 cases of Alimentum.

Thanks everyone. We are feeding him Ailimentum now, just paying for it ourselves. We started it late Friday. The doctor wants to see us in 2 weeks and test the stool again. The good thing for me and DH is that DS has times when he is not very colicky at all.
