For people who are NOT in good shape (like me) -- UPDATE, I tried it :)
I am on WW, but NEVER exercise. I am a total couch potato, but seriously need to start moving. I have a brand new elliptical at home, and I used it maye 3 times. I can't stand it. I was thinking about trying to find something that I would actually enjoy doing. Hopefully, that will help me stick to it.
I have heard alot of Zumba and how wonderful it is. I am a horrible dancer, but am willing to give this a shot. My question is, for those who have done it, do you think Zumba would be something I can handle physically? In other words, is it hard to learn, will it kick my arse, etc.? I don't want something TOO easy, I actually want to get fit, but I don't want it to be like a high-energy step class (which I think I would die trying to do, LOL!). I am 40 and although within 10 lbs of my goal weight, I am very sedentary.
Any feedback would be great!!!
UPDATE: I enjoyed it more than I thought I would....It was a workout, that's for sure! I was sweating and I'm a little sore today, but I am definitely going back! I was able to keep up for the most part, which I am happy about!! When I calculated WW activity points, I put "moderate" for 60 minutes, I think that's accurate???

I am a lazy sack too. I could be down much more then the 7 lbs im down if I move. I do Zumba home on the kinect, and Im not going to lie, the first time I almost died 2 mins in on beginner. I also smoke ( i know, I know) so that doesnt help. I love walk away the lbs dvd. Its 20 mins, and by the time you start to sweat, its over.

Re: For people who are NOT in good shape (like me)
I started WW in January and by Feb I wanted to join the gym. Everyone was talking about Zumba so I decided to try a class. I was so nervous that I was going to look like an idiot and I wouldn't be able to do it. I'm not going to lie, the first couple of classes were not as much exercise and me trying to figure out what they were doing. But I found an instructor that I really like and after a few classes I learned all the songs she did (she adds 1-2 new ones a week).
I LOVE Zumba and now go 3 times a week. There are people of all different fitness levels there. In the beginning I didn't do a lot of the jumping and high intensity moves and now I can do most of them.

I've never tried zumba, but love hot yoga and recommend this all the time to people who are not in shape.
In fact, this is perfect for people in this category because you can tailor your workout to your ability.
If anything, just check it out at a studio for the beginner's special.
Most of them offer this on the cheap. Mine offers 10 consecutive days for $20.00 for new students.

Re: For people who are NOT in good shape (like me)
I love love love Zumba. I am very over weight. I started going to the gym in July. First class was Zumba. 3 months later I do Zumba at least 5-6 days a week with 6 different instructors (most are very different, so it's imp to switch it up, to work different parts of your body).
It took me a good month and a half before I my 2 left feet turned to one and a half, and even 3 months later I still sometimes have two left feet, but it is sooo much fun.
I've lost a lot inches and a total of 17 lbs (I am not dieting). I am 30 lbs from my goal weight but I am in no rush.
I found that i get much better results when I go to the gym then if I relied solely on doing it at home.

I hate almost all exercise, but I started the C25K about 5 months ago and I love it! If I were doing it on a treadmill I wouldn't be able to stand it, but running outside I love.

I was going to suggest yoga as well. Not specifically hot yoga, just yoga in general (although I happen to love hot yoga personally).
I am a runner and would always suggest walking / running OUTSIDE. Make a great play list and get going.
