For the first time since I turned 18, I am not voting for a President
I've been thinking about this so much lately.
I can't identify with either candidate. nothing either candidate stands for resonates with me. and voting for someone else just to vote doesn't make sense.... but maybe I will do that just in order to exercise my privilege.
anyone else feel the same way?

Nope...I'm a registered Republican, but I love Barack and am voting for him!

I believe you can still go and not press any levers. It means you voted, but you just don't want to pick those choices.
I will be voting.

It is often that I don't LOVE either candidate. I have to look at each one and decide which best aligns with my beliefs and ideas. IMO, not voting doesn't "prove" anything.

I don't think I've ever actually identified with a presidential candidate, but I have always voted.

i agree. i'm not trying to prove anything, but i highly dislike both candidates. i can't give my vote to someone i don't believe it.
i'm going to look at the third party candidates as well. it kills me that i don't support the democratic nominee.

I agree, but I also feel strongly that another Bush-like president will put us as a country in a deeper hole we will never get out of. That is why I will be reluctantly voting for Obama.

That's what I am doing. I feel that even if I go and vote for someone who will never win, it will affect the % of people they claim who support him. I will show that I am not happy with the candidates, and not voting does not say that directly.

Re: For the first time since I turned 18, I am not voting for a President
I could have written this post myself. I ALWAYS vote whether it be a presidential election or school board election. This year though, I am so on the fence with the candidates. While I can see positives in each, each also has severe negatives. Neither is truly my cup of tea. With that in mind, I am going to look into lesser known candidates. I am also going to prioritize the issues and then perhaps that will help me choose a candidate.

Re: For the first time since I turned 18, I am not voting for a President
just because you dont resignate with either doesnt mean you should not vote. pick the one that you prefer. thats all. one of them is going to win and its up to you and many others to decide.
i never totally agree with every thing one person stands for, but im the majority on one side and that is why i will vote for that person.
but please, vote! im sure one of them you prefer over the other!

Re: For the first time since I turned 18, I am not voting for a President
PLEASE dont vote your party just to vote! research who is the best candidate amongst allll the parties!! heres what i would suggest if youre on the fench, or hate both,(republican/democrat) have someone you know print out info (like a fact sheet) on all the candidates beliefs and their 'plan', and have them remove the candidates name from the page so you can just read the information without knowing who the candidate is. and base you judgement on the facts not the party or candidate. voting for the person who you think would better the country is better than not voting at all.

Re: For the first time since I turned 18, I am not voting for a President
I don't think there is anything wrong with voting for whoever you feel best represents your views, whether a traditional Republican/Democrat or NOT. There are more than two choices out there (libertarian party, green party, etc), but people feel like it's not worth voting for someone outside of the traditional two parties. I hate that. Vote your conscience! But please vote.

See what November brings.
Please don't skip the voting booth entirely even if you don't vote for a presidential candidate!
So much of our daily life is affected by state representatives who are up for election this year, too. As are our congressional representatives. Learn about these candiates who are often accessible to voters and eager for input and feedback!

There's a lot of time left between now and November.
See who the running mates are.
Give each of them a chance to prove themselves.
And give each of them a chance to F-Up.

Re: For the first time since I turned 18, I am not voting for a President
My preferred candidate is no longer in (HRC), but I will be voting b/c of the issues facing us. Frankly, the one thing that is driving me to the voting booth this year is the power the next pres will have in nominating people to the Supreme Court. It is very likely that in the next administration, we will see 2-3 SCOTUS seats open up, and that will sway the court one way or another.
After the Dem primaries, I thought for sure I wouldn't vote, but after the SCOTUS released the last few decisions, there is no way I won't vote any more. It is WAY too important.

I feel the same - except I will be voting. I just am not certain who I will be voting FOR.
This election is too important to skip out on for me. I have found that the hardest choices are the ones that have the most impact.

Don't feel bad because there is no chance in hell McCain wins New York State.
So even if you vote it really wouldn't matter.

Nobody said it. I'm just saying that voting for presidential races is pretty useless if you live in New York due to the electoral college.
When was the last time the state voted Republican? The Democratic candidate has to be REALLY BAD for NY to vote a Republican in.
But I always vote in races where the popular vote matters (like for Governor, Mayor, Congressmen, etc.)

Re: For the first time since I turned 18, I am not voting for a President
I feel the same way. I don't trust stodgy old men and something about Obama irriates me to no end. I won't vote for any other because to me, thats almost borderline spiteful.
So I will pay close attention, watch debates, do a lot of reading and see what happens as we get closer to the election. I will go to vote, but I may not pull a lever.
