For the SAHM that do not have family and friends around
how do stay occupied and not dwell on being alone. It is starting to get to me at times. I only live an hour from my inlaws and and hour and half from my parents but last weeks experience of staying over (not hte first time) left a bad taste in my mouth (Luka and I only slept for 3 HOURS ).

Re: For the SAHM that do not have family and friends around
It's really hard especially in the winter here in Chicago. I'm actually having a really tough time lately. DH travels for work too, so I'm really on my own. Last week was his first week away in a month and I was miserable. I have been dwelling on being alone alot lately. Anyway, to answer your question - I'm looking into joining some classes with DD and hoping that will help. I need to force myself to get out more. It's hard when it's freezing cold and snowing out.

Re: For the SAHM that do not have family and friends around
I am alone in NC.
Leo works so much. When he is home, he is marathon training.
I went on my first mom date the other night. I emailed another mom and asked her to the movies! 27 Dresses, I had such a good time. I hope to do it again soon.
For those 3 hours, I felt like a person with a social life again.

Re: For the SAHM that do not have family and friends around
It's not easy. My mom lives in Illinois. My dad live sin South Carolina. We live in Queens. My MIL lives in Lake Grove. Yes, MIL is close, but she never offers to help, and I don't ask b/c I know she wouldn't be available when I would need help.
I sometimes amaze myself in how I keep busy. Somedays it's easier than others. When DS is grumpy or crabby, it's tough. I play w/ him, we watch cartoons. I go out for a drive (not everyday, but maybe ever 2 days or so), I can't go shopping b/c we're saving for a house, but just drive around the neigborhood a little.
It stinks this time of year. In the summer/early fall I would take DS to the playground - even tho he was too small for swings as such I'd walk around.

Re: For the SAHM that do not have family and friends around
My family is in Florida and NJ (not very close). We are on LI and so are my ILs , but they also do not offer to help and unless we have some emergency, I am not very comfortable asking them.
It's hard right now since DS is so little (7 weeks) and I'm trying to keep him away from crowds until he's about 3 months. If the weather isn't too cold or rainy/snowy, we take a walk. There is a parent's group meeting later this month in my town which I plan to attend since I know almost no one here (we just moved in a few months ago). When DS is older, I will probably take him to storytime at the library and to parks and such. In the meantime, I try to think of little projects I would like to do at home while DS is sleeping.
I guess the main thing I try to do each day is call a friend or my parents or at least e-mail my friends, so I'm in touch with other adults. DH and I also are going to start going out on our own now and then either with friends or to do other stuff.

Re: For the SAHM that do not have family and friends around
It got much better once we started Gymboree classes and playgroups. But it's still very hard not having family around. I'd even kill to have someone an hour and a half away. All 3 of us have been sick for weeks with no one to look after Ellie so that we can rest. It *****! I know you're still new to NJ it'll probably take some more time to get to know more people.

my whole family is overseas , I am in Queens, we are also saving for a house so I can't go shopping much so we stay home most of the time(it's so cold out) My MIL would help if I ask , she lives close by but I don't like to ask, I play with my daughter, watch TV, read and so on, I do take my daughter to PT 2x a week , don't really like to drive with the baby much, sometimes I feel like I am going to go crazy, waiting for spring , so we can go to park or for walks , or maybe sign her up for classes, (they are just so expensive) so just hoping that it'll get better as the baby gets older .
