For those doing a newborn shoot due in October-December
Are you doing a newborn shoot and christmas photos or are you combining the two?
When do you normally schedule the shoot for?
If my are born in October, I might wait a month and then do a photo session for christmas cards..
What do you think?

Our is due in Oct as well. I think thats an awesome idea. It can be like a Christmas/birth announcement card. Thanks for the idea!

i would discuss your options with whomever you are planning on working with...that time of year is REALLY busy because of holiday cards...my sister had her daughter at the end of october and had a newborn shoot right away and didn't get the full set of proofs until thanksgiving....she sent out birth announcements using the pics from the photo shoot and then sent out xmas cards using other pics from the photo shoot right after.

Re: For those doing a newborn shoot due in October-December
Most photographers will do holiday photos early Nov so they have time to edit and get them to you for holiday cards at the end of Nov.
If they will be born in Oct or ealier then they will definitely change come Nov/Dec. But you might as well do a few shots in a santa hat or something at the newborn shoot so you have them and you don't have to rush to book a holiday session.
I usually don't get requests for newborn holiday shots unless it's a Nov/Dec newborn.

Re: For those doing a newborn shoot due in October-December
I'm due Oct. 25th, I might buy a santa hat or something Christmas-y to use during the newborn shoot, but my intention is most likely to just keep regular nb pics as a birth announcement and take my own Christmas pics at home by our tree and send separately as a Christmas card....I figured our LO might change a lot by December and I can just take my own pics since I don't think I'd take the baby out for professional pics at that point. But at least by having some Christmas props on hand for the photographer, I have the option of which pics I want to use for xmas cards. I really love fall themed pics so that's why I don't want to take away too much from those type of shots by making it a full blown holiday theme.

I'm due mid November so I will probably do some Christmas photos in the newborn session, but if I go early (in Oct) I will do two separate sessions.

That's a good idea! I wasn't planning on doing a newborn shoot but I do want I send out Christmas cards with DD's picture so I guess we will end up doing a photo shoot shortly after she's born. I may just dress her in something neutral, like white, instead of having her wear a Christmas outfit.
