For those familiar with the housing market - question for you...
Where would you say housing prices are today relative to 2004 - more, less, around the same? If someone paid $X for a home in 2004 and did relatively nothing to the house and were to sell it now in 2010 would you say the value should be the same, more or less? Thanks in advance!

Depends on the house and area. Some areas are still selling very well right now. Some areas are getting hammered.
If you are looking at a house that somebody bought in 2004, it doesn't really matter what they paid for it. The house is worth what somebody is willing to pay now.
2004 was also before what I feel was the housing "peak" in 2005.

Looking in my market I would say prices are similar to those from 2004

I say very similar being that we bought our place in 2004 and it is valued the same today

relatively the same as 2004/05 values, but it truly depends on the area. Some were hit much harder, and other neighborhoods can see increases over 2004 prices.

I'd say less than what they cost 2004-ish...

Generally the same or a bit less in some cases.

Re: For those familiar with the housing market - question for you...
I want to add that homes bought in 05-07 seem to be coming on alot less than what they paid in my experience.
03 and 04 are holding their own overall.
But alot of it comes down to the area, high demand or not so much.

Hi, If you're comfortable with this and you live in Nassau or Suffolk, give me your address and i'll give you a good idea of what your home value is.
I am a Realtor, but i absolutely don't mind helping. It's just a few clicks on the keyboard for me.
Best, John
