Re: For those mommies who are teachers...

Chat Icon It took me probably two months last year to really get into the full swing of things, when normally, by the third week of school, I was in full swing.
It gets easier once you get used to your new schedule. As my husband pointed out to me the other day, I work 8-3, and it could be worse, I could get home at like 6 or 7 from a 9-5 job and only spend an hour with her everyday. So I'm thankful for that.
I think that last year was a lot easier because she didn't really know if I was there or not, so it made it easier to leave. This year will be the hardest. She has become so attached to me this summer that if I'm not in the room, she's constantly calling for me. I guess we just have to get used to a yearly re-adjustment period. Anyway, good luck, and know that there are a lot of us teachers here that will be going through the same thing, whether for the first time or the tenth timeChat Icon

Re: For those mommies who are teachers...

It gets much easier as the kids get older. A consistant schedule is key, and that works itself out with trial and error. The September that Nick was 21 months and Alec was 4 months was miserable. It took me until Halloween to figure out a schedule, and then till Christmas to fine tune it,

This september I know will be an easier transition. Both kids remember and are used to Mommy and Daddy going to work, so that is good. They just need to adjust to their new school, which shouldn't take long.

Good luck!Chat Icon

Re: For those mommies who are teachers...

I was out Sept-February and returning mid-year was brutal for me. I think DD was fine being home with DH but I never adjusted. I am not looking forward to going back again in September. I just feel like I've lost my mojo in the teaching world. I'd rather be with DD. That being said...hopefully I will be able to adjust this school year!!!

Much like Rachel said, my DD flips her wig if I so much as step out of her line of vision. It'll be tougher for her this school year.

I'm feeling a lot of stress with bringing DS to daycare. With DS #1 it wasnt a problem. He was always so easy. #2 is a completely different story. I just hope he's a good boy.

Re: For those mommies who are teachers...

I will be going back to teaching after being out since April. My mom will be watching Emma so that does make things a lot easier. But I know it will take time to get into a routine. Emma wakes up between 6 and 7. If she wakes up early I will be able to feed her if not DH will. My mom will be over at 830 so DH can go to work. But the whole idea of kind of starting my day with her at 4 when I get home will be an adjustment. At least I know that there are other girls that are having the same feelings as me.

Before having dd I always thought that after five months I'd be so excited about going back to work. I was not prepared for these feelings that I now have. I wish that we were in the position for me not to go back to work. I keep telling myself that after a few weeks I will be happy again, but I don't know if I am believing this positive self talk!Chat Icon
