$370K in Setauket. Dec 2006.
Id rather have an old crazy expensive house on LI than a large new house down south ANYDAY!!
I second that!
We bought in July 2008
5 bedroom, 2 full bath, full unfinished basement for $331k
The house just needed A LOT of cosmetic work. It's now a 4 bedroom because we knocked down one wall and made one bedroom a den

Re: For those of you who bought your home
We bought in 2005 for $635K.
Although it was the height of the market, it wasn't our first house.. we bought the first one in early 2002. We had put a lot of DIY work into the first house, and between that and the real estate bubble, we made a huge profit on that house, rolled all the profit plus a little savings into a down payment on the new house, and ultimately put more than 50% down. We plan to stay in this house for the long term, so it felt really good to ensure a relatively low mortgage payment (only on Long Island is a 300K mortgage considered "relatively low", lol!!!!)
