? for those of you who work in drs. office: re: bloodwork
I got a letter in the mail today after a physical last week, that while it is NOT an emergency, to please make an appt. with the doctor in the next THREE weeks to discuss results from my bloodwork.
What would something like this usually mean?
Disclaimer: I AM going to call to make an appt. tomorrow.
I am overall a pretty healthy individual (I think).

I don't work in a Dr's office but I do work in healthcare. It depends on what type of blood work they did. The fact that they want to go over it with you in the office may mean that they want you to follow up with another type of Dr. Maybe your glucose was high, or thyroid was off and they want you to go to an endocrinologist. I wouldn’t stress it too much since they didn't say make an appointment right away.
When you make an appointment I would ask them what in your blood work the appointment would be regarding, this way you can prepare yourself a little bit.

I got an appt for Monday but the receptionist said they weren't allowed to discuss anything over the phone. Blah!
Now I am going to be anxious for the rest of the week/weekend.

gotta love HIPPA, ugh.
If it makes you feel better you can call them and ask for them to have your Dr call you in regards to what the appointment is for. They are allowed to give results over the phone as long as you consent, I usually have the office fax me my results.

No experience, but that's total BS. It's like a little kid taunting you, "I know something you don't know...".
I'm sure if it were something really bad, a doctor would have called you, or they would have insisted that you come in sooner. So that should be a load off your mind. But still, I'm so mad for you that they're handling you this way!

I know my Doctors office won't discuss ANY results over the phone. They require you to come back to get the results. Good or bad, doesn't matter. I think it is because insurances pay so low and they are trying to get more income.

Mostly one of the results were abnormal but fro the sound of the letter not urgent. Sometimes it's inappropriate to have some conversations over the phone and yes the doctor should be the insurance because all of our time is money.

I think this sometimes too. One of my doctors made me come in for a surgery consult when all I wanted to do was tell her I was electing to have surgery with her associate. She's not even a surgeon! It was mostly out of courtesy but she made me come in to say I decided to go with the other guy.
But i have also had results that needed an explanation which turned out ok but more involved then what could be covered in a phone call.
Good luck! Try not to worry. I am sure everything is fine or they would be rushing you in.

That's ridiculous ! When I ever have medical testing,I have the secretaries fax the results to me as soon as they are available. ( with many different doctors) If there are any abnormalities the doctor calls me to discuss it. You absolutely should not have to wait 3 weeks! I'd call up and demand a copy of the results tomorrow.

Update: I am not going to die!
I think it WAS probably to ultimately collect a co-pay.
Basically, they told me my allergy test came back as being "allergic to dust".
It also showed my "good cholesterol" was low and they suggested I take fish oil.
They also wanted to recommend I have I believe the hepatitis round of vaccines since I work in healthcare.
