For those suffering from morning sickness, are you taking your prental vitamins?
I feel so awful and am having difficulty taking my prenatal vitamins. I know it's so important to have good nutrition and these vitamins are crucial in early development.
I can barely keep ANYTHING down. I munch on anything that I won't throw up but it isn't nearly as nutritious as I would have planned my diet to be.
I've lost 7 pounds since finding out I was pregnant. I feel like I am going backwards.

I didn't have M/S but I can say this..
Forget nutritious..
EAT SOMETHING !
Anything.. lots of small amounts of anything
Something in you is better than nothing.. My co-worker had bad M/S (She's 4 weeks behind me) and she kept trying to 'be good' with her food but finally she realized that McDonald's Fries were the only thing staying down so we'd go get her a large fry for lunch.
Whatever it takes.. when M/S passes then you can worry about fruits and veggies.. for now.. Eat!
Good Luck!

Re: For those suffering from morning sickness, are you taking your prental vitamins?
I take my prenatals right before bed. In my 1st trimester when I was constantly nauseous I took them after dinner. This helped me. If I took them inthe morning I would throw them right up. Feel Better.

Re: For those suffering from morning sickness, are you taking your prental vitamins?
well i am having a similiar problem and I an 19.5 weeks. pre natals make me so sick, so my dr told me to try flintstones. nope , they made me sick as well. so he told me to make sure i take folic acid. so i can handle that. since i am a little further along i learned some tricks. def, get sea bands, that u wear on your wrists, they totally help w/ nausea. coconut water helps ease nausea as well. drink it. COKE. saves my life. i try to limit it to a can a day, which is funny b.c i am not a caffeine drinker except during prenancy. dr told me to do it. chew gum (all the time) i try to stay away from sugar free b.c of the aspartame but.... sometimes not. stacys naked pita chips! they are life savers. and sour patch kids, god knows why but they totally help. i can handle cereal w/ milk in the morning. so get something w/ alot of vitamins like multi cheerios and whole milk for calcium. certain cereals are packed w/ vitamins so dont feel bad if u cant handle pre natals. i also try to drink ensure but sometimes it makes me sick . or juicy juice sick sometimes as well. oh oh , also try to get ice pops made from fruit minute maid, there are alot of tricks of the trade..... u'll find what works for u. good luck!

I couldn't keep my prenatals down either but the doctor gave me folic acid pills to take that were very tiny and easy to swallow so that I got the folic acid I needed and tried to eat healthy. I was able to eat fruits and lived on carbs..mostly bagels and toast/english muffins and pasta. Hope you feel better soon!

be careful with that, b.c they just lay in your esophagus/stomach if u lay down right after, I blame my gastritis on taking pre nats on before bed. i know some drs tell u to do that but ask a gastroenterologist, not a great idea.

Re: For those suffering from morning sickness, are you taking your prental vitamins?
Don't worry about eating healthy right now. When I had morning sickness, the only thing I could tolerate was carbs. My doctor said to eat whatever I could keep down. I lived on mac 'n cheese and mashed potatoes for a while.
Even though I felt nauseous all day, I only got sick in the mornings. I took my prenatals at night on a full stomach.

Re: For those suffering from morning sickness, are you taking your prental vitamins?
I lost about 13 pounds the first trimester and my prenatals made the heartburn worse, even when I took them with some food in my stomach or at night. I didn't take them for almost a month. My ob said if I couldn't keep them down to try to take a regular mutivitamin

I have heard from a lot of people that if you can't take your prenatal, take Flintstones vitamins b/c they have the same stuff in them.

Re: For those suffering from morning sickness, are you taking your prental vitamins?
My OB said to skip the prenatals till I hit the 2nd trimester since the m/s is so bad. He said we don't live in a third world country adn that he would be willing to bet that even if no one in America took prenatals we would still continue to have healthy babies.
Just eat! How do you feel about yogurt? I love it right now and it's the only thing staying down.

Nothing dairy for me. I just found out this past weekend that grapes are my new best friend. I normally don't even like grapes. Go figure.

Re: For those suffering from morning sickness, are you taking your prental vitamins?
I really didn't take my prenatals during my 1st trimester, b/c I was so sick...didn't matter what time of day I took them, i still puked them up.
my Dr, said to take a multi vitamin in its place, since it wasn't as harsh on the tummy.
It will pass!

I agree, don't take any pills one hour at least, before bedtime or laying down. I got gastritis years ago from taking a med before bed.

Re: For those suffering from morning sickness, are you taking your prental vitamins?
I stopped taking them around 8 weeks. My midwife says the most important part of the prenatals is the folic acid that is important for neural tube development which happend between implantation and is done by week 8. Therefore, there really isn't a need.
Also, eat what you can. I have been living on carnation instant breakfast, chocolate and vanilla milkshakes made with wheat germ, grilled cheese and baked potatoes!

I still have the original box from the first script that I filled.
<-----Is PERFECT!
Prenatals are for you anyway, the baby takes your vitamins, etc first and the prenatal gives them back to you.

Re: For those suffering from morning sickness, are you taking your prental vitamins?
I am taking Flinstones gummi vitamins (I was taking Trader Joes, but even those tasted weird) with a b-vitamin and folic acid supplement.
This is what my Dr recommended when I told her that the vitamins were making me sick.
