For those that have moved recently, are you finding it hard to make your house a home?
I know we only moved in 2 months ago and I do have 2 kids under 2 but I hate that it feels just like a house and not a home yet.
I still have boxes in the room that will be our living room and it is driving me crazy. I can't do anything with it because of the stupid pool table the seller's left so I am tring to sell it. I try and decorate the other rooms and my mind is just blank. In our old house we gutted the main floor and I was able to do everything and I loved how it came out now I just sit and stare at the walls when the kids sleep and .

Yes!!!
We hung some pics last weekend in the living room and it finally looked "homey" but, it still needs some work.
We still have boxes that are packed up. I feel like it's taking forever to settle in!
We moved in at the beginning of May.

I have been in my house 3.5 years and I am still decorating. It is a process. Now I am ready to redecorate certain rooms, because I feel like you need to change things up.

Re: For those that have moved recently, are you finding it hard to make your house a home?
Yes, that's us. We moved into our house a month ago, and there are still boxes all over the dining room. Some things I cannot unpack because the cabinet space in our kitchen stinks, and I haven't gotten around to ordering a kitchen cart yet. Our living room table is covered with mail and newspapers all the time and looks sloppy. The room that will be our office is a mess of boxes, and the room that will be a nursery is empty and needs to be painted. There are other things we want to change over time, though the boxes, clutter, and not knowing where anything is most of the time is what really bothers me.
Realistically though, we can only do so much. Weekends are pretty much it to get anything done, including cleaning and laundry. We both have monster commutes and get home late. We're also having a baby in December, and we've been looking at nursery furniture, and I've been spending a lot of time on my registry lately. So it's hard to fit everything in that we need to do. I think we can only do a little at a time, plus once we get around to buying new furniture, our house should look better.

Re: For those that have moved recently, are you finding it hard to make your house a home?
It's funny that you should post this since I recently had this conversation with my co-worker. We've both bought homes recently. All of my previous "homes" have been commercial apts and they were pretty neutral, so we moved in and our stuff made it feel like our home pretty quickly.
In our new home, like yours, the previous owners left a ton of stuff that we're slowly getting rid of, but that means that boxes can't get stored where they need to go. Also, the previous owner's decorating taste is completely the opposite of mine, so I have really felt like I have been living in someone else's home and it has really affected my mood. Recently we got rid of her ugly carpet and put in laminate floors and really claimed the bedroom as our own and it has made a HUGE difference! Same with the living room. Have patience, it does get better. And I think it helps to realize that it's affecting your mood and that you're not crazy!
