For those that installed windows themselves, where to buy?
Where did you buy them? We need to replace aobut 5 windows but we don't want to pay extra for someone to install them. Thanks!

We put in 5 new windows and also a 6 ft. sliding door. We bought them off the shelf from Home Depot and my brother in law installed them. If you can buy them off the shelf - you'll save a lot of money!!

That's where we got our Pella windows. If you have a standard size, you can get them off the shelf.

DH's brother installed them for us. He is a carpenter and can do pretty much everything, so we were very lucky. DH installed one himself. The hardest part is bending the aluminum trim and finishing off the outside once the window is in. I think there is special tool that bends the trim, but DH hated having to do it.

Check out Home depot for Anderson windows. They are great performers, modestly priced and are by far the easiest to install. They all have a nailing flange that goes around the entire window which in many cases is connected to the vinyl casing. Therefore no leaks. We have all double hung with natural wood interiors and vinyl exteriors. The latest one we put in was an upswing casement window for a bathroom and it was pulled right off the store shelf.
