Re: For those that traveled to Europe
We changed enough for the cab ride to the hotel, and a little extra just to have.
I think you'll get a better rate by using your debit or credit card. Just don't forget to call the ones you'll use and tell them where you will be and when, or your card may be declined. (fraud prevention)

ditto that on all counts!
And that happened to DH when we were in Paris in November...his card all the sudden was declined, and it was because it was "suspicious" activity.

Re: For those that traveled to Europe
I change $$ to Eurtos in the airport when I arrive. Depending on where you are going and what you will be doing -- I use a cc for thehotel and nice restuarants but in Spain we go out for tapas a lot so I carry cash.
The less touristy or fancy the place is the less likely they will take credit cards - but there are plenty of ATMs around.

Re: For those that traveled to Europe
Personally I like to use credit cards as much as possible, and then for cash, I usually try to take out enough from the ATM once I am over there.
To be on the safe side, I usually take some $$, as people that I have travelled with, sometimes have problems with PIN #'s & the ATM's.

Re: For those that traveled to Europe
I use debit cards. I have a card in which I do not get any extra fees if I use any ATM. Check your bank. Some banks are really good overseas (HSBC).

Same here. You will get a much better exchange rate on your CC.
Just get enough euros for the cab ride - and charge everywhere else that you can.

Re: For those that traveled to Europe
We exchanged for euros there, many post offices don't have a rate they charge to exchange, we found that to be true in England at least when we exchanged for pounds. Not sure about other places in Europe.
