for those w/o china cabinets

what did you do with your china? I seems a shame to put these beautiful dishes away in closet. Is it silly to have the dining room table set all time? I can't fit a regular sized china cabinet in the dining rooom only a side table. Any suggestions?

Re: for those w/o china cabinets

I don't have a full set of China but most of it is stored. I don't have a China cabinet and I plan to get something that I can display some crystal and some other stuff but I will store the China in dust covers.

Re: for those w/o china cabinets

What about open shelving? Throw a couple up and display your china that way?

We have a very open DR - with little actual wall space so that's what I might do too...

Otherwise I think keeping the table set is a great way to display it!!

Re: for those w/o china cabinets

We don't have a china cabinet, so when we did the kitchen, we put glass doors on one set of upper cabinets. This is where all my china is. There is going a couple of pieces of the stemware in there and the rest is stored.

Putting up some open shelving is a nice idea. Or what about a corner cabinet in the DR? That way you can display some of it and store the rest of it.

Re: for those w/o china cabinets

We keep our china in quilted storage compartments in our 3 drawer side table.
Fits the service of 12 perfectly!

Good idea maybe some shelves on the wall -- I could probably find some less expensive ones from target or home goods

I love how you displayed a few - it looks great. I have to start bargain hunting for something small for the DR.

Thank you!Chat Icon There are 4 displayed (2 on the top shelf and 2 on the bottom shelf). The middle shelf, they are just all stacked. It was the best way for us to show most of the china set. Chat Icon Could you buy a sideboard with glass doors.

This is our old house but the dining room wasnt wide enough for any cabinet so I put a few on shelves on the wall.

We still havent done anything to our new dining room but I can't wait to get a china closet!

thanks for the pic -- that is a great alternative

Re: for those w/o china cabinets

I didn't register for china so I didn't feel the need to get a china cabinet.

We did the same thing (put a few sets in glass cabinet in the kitchen) and the rest are stored in the sideboard in the dining room. That way its easily accessible if we want to have a special meal for the two of us.

I love the shelves on the wall look too - nice!
