For those who already had their carseat inspected

Did you use both the latch and seatbelt together?

We installed the carseat this afternoon. I put the carseat in behind the front passenger seat. It's too "difficult" to get the carseat in and out from the center.

We used the latch system but then told DH to use the seatbelt on top of that.

Was that OK to use the seatbelt in addition?

I don't know - I went to the local fire department and they did it for me.

I think there is a site that lists places you can go that have been certified to install the seats........its something like www.carseatcheck.org

I have no intentions of getting my carseat inspected, that thing is in there so tight and secure a gorilla couldn't budge it...BUT, when I read the instructions it clearly stated that you cannot use BOTH LATCH and a seatbelt together. Check your carseat's instructions to be sure!!!

Oddly, DH's car has LATCH and I found it so hard to use, I abandoned it for the "old-fashioned" method.Chat Icon

That's what I was trying to find in my car manual and carseat manual. I could not see that. I was checking if we could use both.

That stuff is so freaking tight... It won't move anywhere. Even without the seatbelt.

I recommend EVERYONE gets their car seat inspected. DH swore up and down that he did it right and I went and it was wrong....the woman that inspected ours said she has NEVER had anyone come in that has done it right. Take the 5 minutes and have somebody who knows what they are doing install it.

Do you have the snugride? I just downloaded the instruction manual from the graco website, it says "or" not both. From what I can see/read, it doesn't recommend or suggest using both together. I think the issue is that they can work against each other. I'm not certain and don't have this carseat myself, I do know my explicitly says NOT to use both.

hope this helps.Chat Icon

I agree. Also - the guy who installed ours said there is supposed to be some movement -- it's not supposed to be latched down that tight where it doesn't give at all.

You cannot use the Latch AND the belt. It's one or the other.

Thank you Ladies!

Yes, I plan on having it inspected. I just wanted it installed this weekend.

Thanks Cheryl! I will take off the seatbelt .

I find the latch gives it a much more secure fit. And getting it inspected is always a good thing. Reminds me I need to go again soon as I just turned my DD seat around.
