For those who converted Oil to Gas?

I just called Keyspan and they advised that there is a line directly in front of my house and all I would need to do is pay for a Boiler which they have some promotion going on for $899 and then I have to hire a Plumber to do the rest of the work (Hot water heater, remove the oil tank, etc...)

How much does this usually run?

Wow i think that is great!!!!!!!
Normally i think its like between 4K and 6K but i am not 100% sure.
I should tell my husband to call because we want to switch over also. We have gas in the houe already (stove) so I am hoping it would be the same for us.

We didn't covert but got a new water heater and boiler last winter and the plumber charged us $5500. We got direct vent where it goes right out of the house and you don't need a chimmney.

Re: For those who converted Oil to Gas?

We converted. New heat, new hot water tank, ran the gas piping from downstairs to Up for the stove and added one new zone for our furture Den = $7,000. And we did the direct vent also, so we didn't have to do the chimmney liner which I believe was another $1500. The direct vent one might be a little more through Keyspan, but we thought it was worth it. GL! Are monthly bills have been great. Don't regret doing the conversion.Chat Icon

I believe it was a couple of weeks. Someone has to come and inspect the plumbers work before Keyspan will turn the gas on. It also depends on how long the plumber takes to run all the pipes.

we converted.... On december 26thChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Long story short, our boiler was ancient and we had a FULL tank and were trying to get every last second out of it. It finally crapped out december 24th, perfect timing! We used ABLE heating and cooling we had an estimate from them from earlier so all we had to do was call, they were there the next day.

Because of the timing we didnt go through keyspan. It was about 8,000. We already used gas in the house for our stove so that was fine... this included removing the old HUGE gross boiler (SO happy thats gone) removing our old new hot water heater, putting in a new one, removing the old oil that was in the tank, the new heating unit with vaporizer and removing and installing a new central air unit (that was also ancient and would often freeze up). I dont have the receipt on me but there was a bunch of stuff it covered. it took a day and a half and we have been SOOO happy.

I think we got an OK deal considering all that was done. Probably couldve done better but time was of the essence! About 2 months later we filled out something from keyspan and they gave us $500 back for converting so that was cool!

We are converting from oil to gas on June 2nd. It will take two days. Our oil tank is outside of our house so that doesn't need to be removed. The boiler will be removed by Keyspan and they are doing all of the work. My DH had to put sheetrock over where the boiler will be [unfinished basement] as per the Town code. On Day 1, an inspector from the Town will come over and make sure the sheetrock is appropriate, and prep work will be done. On Day 2, the job should be finished up. Total cost: $4500- new boiler, new water heater with removal of old boiler and labor.

I'll post again next week and let you know if it did actually take 2 days. Chat Icon
