Has anyone converted to gas from oil?

Our new home has oil and we are considering converting to gas. Is it worth it? If you have done this...about how much did it cost? Thank You! Chat Icon

Re: Has anyone converted to gas from oil?

Do you have gas line in your house? Is there one on your block? We looked into it and it was going to be really expensive because we had no gas line in our house and the closest one was down the block.Seemed very involved. If you can get other people on the block to do it is less expensive.

I know there are people on here who have done it though.

Re: Has anyone converted to gas from oil?

We had gas in the house and converted last summer and it saved me a fortune.
first winter was 500 a month for oil, this past winter was 200 a month for gas....

I 100% recommend converting

when we converted in my old house (about 5 yrs ago) it cost around $3000 to actually convert, but we definitely saved $$ on our monthly heating bill. also it burns cleaner, I think converting was definitely worth it.

another converter here!!Chat Icon

it was the best thing we did for our house. we needed a new burner anyway and since there was a gas line in the street, we decided to go with gas.

Keyspan will bring the pipe to your house and then you need a plumber to do the actual conversion.

Call Keypsan and if you give them the lot and block # they should be able to tell you how close etc. Just tell them you are purchasing the house or have purchased it.

DO IT! It was the best thing we ever did for this house.

Never have to worry about running out, shelling out $600 for oil at one time in the winter, and I am sure I could go on and on! Chat Icon

Oh and it cost about $3000 total. We used Burner King.

Re: Has anyone converted to gas from oil?

we converted! def worth it. our gas bill is about $200 in winter and now has been dropping to about $160. We use gas for heat and cooking. Our conversion cost $6000. We put in another zone for heat, which meant new pipes being run and then we had to have pipes run to the kitchen for the stove. HTH!

Totally worth. DH is a plumber so he did the conversion about 5 years ago himself. The last 2 years with the price of oil it really has paid off well for us.
