? for those who had staples with their C-section

For my 2nd c-section, my surgeon wants to do staples. He said sometimes there's fluid collection with a 2nd c-section, and when he removes staples it will usually drain any fluid.

I want to Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

The thought of having them removed is freaking me out. And I've had major surgeries before, so I don't know why.

So help me get over this. I don't want to risk infection, and feel like I did it to myself if I get one (he said if I felt strongly about it he'd do dissolving stitches again).

So what does it feel like when they take them out???

It's like nothing when they are taken out, seriously. Maybe like a little pinch, but really not even in my experience. It's soooo easy...trust me!

I was having a panic attack in the car on the way to the dr. when i had to have them removed. Just the sight of them made me want to vomit. But having them take out is like nothing....you don't feel a thing.

I had staples and was told that is what they usually do at Columbia (maybe it is just my drs group but that was what they told me). They removed them before I left the hospital and I really felt nothing - I have had several drs tell me it has healed beautifully. I do know that I was told a lot of infections happen when people rush to do things before they were supposed to and their stitches open up. Otherwise if you keep the wound clean and dry you should be okay.

Etd to add I can be a big baby with pain - and get light headed at the sight of blood - so I was surprised when they took them out and felt nothing.

Re: ? for those who had staples with their C-section

I am the biggest baby when it comes to pain.

I had staples. They removed them the day I left and put the strips on.

It was NOTHING. No pain. Even the pinch I was expecting was nothing.

I had staples for my first c-section and had a miserable recovery. My second c-section I was given stitches, phew, so much better...for me.

I didn't feel a thing when they removed the stitches, but they were a bit uncomfortable while they were in place. I felt them digging into my skin sometimes.

I did have drainage as well. It started about 8 days after my c-section and continued for about 10 days.

I had stitches and staples...I remember that there was a pinching / burning sensation, and it was uncomfortable...but it was over quickly and afterwards I was fine...

Taking the staples out was a breeze. I promise. I was a nervous wreck too and when my Dr. was done I was like "that's it?".

It's a very light pinch and that's all.Chat Icon

I did not feel anything when I had them removed. I think at first I looked away but then I realized it would not even bother me to watch. (I would tell you if it hurt-- I am not trying to be a hero.)

I had staples with c/s#1 and stitchs/glue with c/s #2 and never heard of an extra risk of infection and did not have any problems with either

The staples do NOT hurt at all to get removed so dont worry about that part at all. However I have to honestly say since I had both I would never want to get staples again, they were much more uncomfortable when trying to move those first few days and sometimes got caught on underware or pants ect. I MUCH prefered the stitchs/glue that I got the second time around
