For those who have been Leave Replacements
I will be going on maternity leave in a couple of weeks and my leave replacement will begin to shadow me on Monday. Do you have any tips for me to ensure a nice transition for her and my class? I have never done this before and was never a leave, so I am not exactly sure of what to do. She will be with me for 8 days before I go and will be with my class till the end of the year.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!! TIA

Re: For those who have been Leave Replacements
I've been out on maternity since nov. and i was lucky since my replacement is great. Have her observe you a day or so, and then co-teach and then have her teach everything the last day or two. That's what I did and the kids were great. Parents even complimented us on the transition. Hope that helps! Good luck and enjoy your leave and your little one!

Wow...that's great that your district gives you so much time to have her shadow you. Some districts don't even do shadowing!

Re: For those who have been Leave Replacements
Thanks, that is what I was thinking. I actually won't be in on Tuesday because my dh is getting his wisdom teeth pulled out (great timing!) so that may make things a little different, but I am glad that I am on the same page!

Well it is for a special education class with a lot of different situations, so I think that may be why they gave us so many days.

Re: For those who have been Leave Replacements
I teach an inclusion class and my team teacher had a baby in Dec and her leave replacement shadowed for 5 days.
She showed her attendance procedures, class contract, grading policy, where materials were, grading program, parent contact info. We also discussed material to cover for the remainder of the year, what books, essays, etc... Fortunately, I am there so the leave replacement has me to help with any other questions she has.
(PS this is the HS level)
