For those who made a cake w/fondant?
Is is difficult, was it your 1st time, did you practice before the actual cake? Any tips would be appreciated. i am thinking about attemping this for DD's 1st b-day. I am not a good cook but I am artistic and creative.

Re: For those who made a cake w/fondant?
I personally have not but I watched my friend make one. It really didn't seem "that" difficult once you roll out the fondant. Make sure you roll it out double what you need just to be safe (a few times she came up short so she ha to roll it out again). She did practice "draping it" on a round styrofoam thing so she could figure out how to smooth it out and not get a lot of wrinkles in it. So I would suggest practicing first so you get comfortable with it and then just have fun!!!! Also, Michaels was advertising cake decorating classes too that looked like a lot of fun - go to Michaels.com and check it out. HAVE FUN!!!!

Re: For those who made a cake w/fondant?
I made one for Billy's birthday. First try. I didnt read anything about it - just learned from watching cake challenges on Food Network
I posted it in the crafts forum.
We made our own with marshmallow and water. From what I've heard, the store bought ones are not that great.
I thought overall it was REALLY easy to work with. Unfortunately, I didnt have too many supplies, so I had to cut a lot of our decorations out by hand. But for a few things I was able to use cookie cutters and tht was real easy!
I plan on making another cake for easter. I am going to do a practice one first this time.....

It's not that difficult, but it takes practice and patience! And then some more practice. Don't rush yourself, make sure you have everything you need in front of you, and you'll be fine.
