For those with a Levitt house (ranch) - extension to the front
Does anyone know or did themself an extension to the front. I would blow the wall of the kitchen and possible garage and bring it several feet on the front yard. That would increase the kitchen size.
I would also extend the 2nd floor to go over the garage.
TIA

Re: For those with a Levitt house (ranch) - extension to the front
I am pretty sure that the front can't be extended any further than the average of the houses on your block. The levit houses were buit so that each house sits differently on the property rotating by 3's. So if you have a house that sits further back on the property than you will probably be able to get a permit. But it your house sits closer to the street you may have an issue with the permit.

most likely you will need a variance -but needing one is pretty common - just takes longer to get building permit
we needed one just to put on a front porch on our house because the room came a foot past the front of the house
my cousin needed one for her second floor - without one she would have had to step the 2nd floor back 5 feet because the building line had changed since the house was built -

Re: For those with a Levitt house (ranch) - extension to the front
I have seen lots of Levitts extended out the front. It seems to be more common with Capes but I don't see why a ranch couldn't be done also. Extensions over garages, I'm sure it's been done but off the top of my head I can't think of any spefic ones. If you want to drive around there are a few on Cord, Halter and Copper that have front extensions.
